Default Transmission grinds in second gear

So I bought a 02 civic ex today and the transmission grinds when shifting into second gear (I knew this when I bought it lol)... It only does this when shifting into second, all other gears are fine... I have a little experience with building motors and transmissions (mostly b series), that I would be willing to take apart the trans if need be... How can I fix this problem? Replace syncro?

You could replace the synchros but a rebuild kit is pretty expensive. These transmissions can be had with little miles for cheap. My rex grinded going into second for over a year and ran fine.

there was a service bulletin from honda on this problem. you either gotta change the shifter bushings or buy a rebuilt tranny. the rebuilt is basically gonna be the only secure fix. my brother ordered his from synchrotech around $900 shipped?

I don't trust rebuilt transmissions unless they're done by me... I'm not saying that I know more than someone who's done it for years, I've just heard too many horror stories. If I rebuild it I'll do it myself, however for now I'm going to try either some GM synchromesh fluid or some Redline oil, I've heard great things about both on this site

Hey if I switch to the gm synchomesh would I need to flush the transmission before putting the synchromesh in?

well it wont make a difference because your transmission is pretty much gone. you need to rebuild it yourself now. a fluid isnt gonna help..
