i got a 96 d16y8 and i got a p28 ecu and i was woundering if this is the right ecu and wireharness for my motor and for some reason my vtech isnt working
Yes and no. The P28 should make it run fine; however the proper ECU for your car would be a P2P. Your car is OBD2a and the P28 is an OBD1 ECU. Thw wiring harness should be the one that the car came with, I highly doubt someone would have changed it.

i bought this car off of my buddy and it was never an auto his dad owned the car from new and gave it to him and i bought it off of him so what exactly do i have to do to make everything work properly because im building the motor for racing and nitrous
Keep the P28 then and build it. First you need to diagnose the VTEC issue. At what point did it stop working. Has it ever worked in that car with that motor? Is the car even wired for VTEC? What motor came out of it?
