shift linkage?
Alright i have a noob question i searched and didnt find anything..this is what happened. Alright i have a bad clutch and to put it in 1st or reverse i have to turn it off and as soon as i turn it back on it gets up and goes. Well anyway today i was backing up and i turned it off to put it in 1st and it wouldnt come out of reverse. I put a little force and it felt like the shift linkage or something broke. The shifter moves up and down as if it was in neutral. but the transmission it self is stuck in gear. Any body know whats going on? i managed to get it out of gear and into neutral. I was told my shift linkage came un hooked? i dont know where to look for this "pin"
ull have to remove and replace the cable to relace the clutch so problem solved. but it doesnt make sense cus ur clutch has nothing to do with u being able to shift from 1st to reverse. u need to check ur slave or master cylinder
The shift cables fit over pins on the shift levers on top of the transmission. The cable ends are retained by a washer and cotter pin. If one these cotter pins came out, the cable end may have disconneted from the tranmission. As ark said, if you have to replace the clutch, these cable ends have to be removed anyway.
pay attention to your slave cylinder as i had thois problem when i bought my 90 accord and when i was in doin the clutch i replaced the slave as well because the internals had gone bad....see if its wet around the slave on the front of the trans

yea it looks to be alittle moist. Is there anything else i can do to find out if the slave has gone bad?
Nah I dont think it is. I started istalling the tranny and while i was under there i noticed something odd...theres a bolt come straight through the case of the tranny.I dont know how this happened but it looks like it got pushed through the aluminum.
Looks like a bolt has come out of the clutch or flywheel (if thats the clutch I can see in the darkness) that wont be your problem though, I'd still look into the leaking slave cylinder and check for any debris in the gear oil inside the transmission itself. Last time I had a trans lock up it turned out to be the cage from the input shaft bearing lodging itself in the gears.
Yea its one of the ones from the clutch, but nah the clutch in there is complete **** so. I knew that wasnt the problem I just found it odd how it got through the tranny. My flywheel is getting resurfaced tomorrow and then were puttin my exedy oem clutch in there later tomorrow or thursday
