For a couple of months now I have had a problem with my fuel pump not pre staging itself on start up. A couple of weeks ago it seemed to be fine except when I went to fuel up where I would find myself stuck for about ten minutes or so and then it would pre stage and I would be fine. Just yesterday I was driving the car and it went out on me. I was stuck on the side of the road for about ten minutes or so and then it once again started up and I drove it home. Now I can get it to start no problem but have not driven it do to the worry of it cutting out again will driving. I just ordered a new pump and tank. Can their be something ells causing this besides the pump?
it's very likely NOT an issue with your pump, or tank. it's the main fuel relay that is probably causing your trouble.

Definetly not the pump. I had the same problem, but it wasnt the main relay eather. Tho i didnt figure it out until AFTER i put a new pump in it. BUT, that gave me an excuse to put in a walbro. haha. Couldnt figure out the problem tho, so i got lazy and ran a new wire from the pump to a 30/40 relay then ran that to the key. Works just like stock.

If you could give some more info on how exactly you did this, it would be a great help!

i used your standard 30/40 amp Relay that you can pick up at any electronics store.
it comes with 4 prongs on the bottom.
Prong 1-to the fuel pump (i ran a new wire, bypassing the factory one)
Prong 2- To a constant 12 volt source
Prong 3- To a on off switch connected to a 12 volt source (i ran it to the back of the key switch, but i thought about putting it on my A/C Button that doesnt do anything any more. Make a soort of anti theft thing)
Prong 4- Goes to a constant Ground
Yeah, it seems kinda hokey, but it works just fine.
I was having such wireing troubles because the previous owner put a full 91 DA harness in the car, headlight to taillight. and its just NASTY under the dash
I was having the same problem. I just put in a walbro and a new tank. It kept blowing the alt. solenoid fuse, so I put a relay in for the fuel pump and that fixed that problem, or so I thought. The fuse will be fine and not blow until I turn my lights on, and when I do with the car running, the buzzer sounds like I have left my lights on with the car off. I have no idea what the problem is. The car also does not run very well at all now, but it at least runs.
