Default not sure what to turbo/how to turbo

I have a civic eg9.stick b16a with the usual I/H/E mods.

Now im coming into abit of money and wanna upgrade.obviously best bang for bucks is turbo...or nos.

Iv read up on how much boost stock internals on the b16a can take but also read its all about the tuning.

i was thinkin of maybe just buying a new turbo car but really wanna kepe my eg9 and have it at around 250-300 bhp and RELIABLE.

all motor is appealing but i dint have that kinda money (i think) unless i go for a k20a with a few non-forced mods.ive heard the k20a responds well to I/H/E...b18c is outta the question for me.id rather go k20 if I go down that road OR turbo and upgrade my b16a

can any 1 tell me a full list of internals i would need ie pistons, uprated head, cams etc etc to make a b16a ready for boost and also be reliable? i understand tuning is the key but upgraded internals arent a waste of money for reliability even though im after around 250-300 bhp.

also would NOS not be a better substitute for me as my cars sort of a daily driver?....with a an uprated head to handle the NOS?

Check the FAQs at the top of the forum to really get you started. That has series of checklists and budgets to fit your turbo needs. once you've read through that a bit, then come back with more specific questions.

lol yeah iv been reading.alot of info on there.I think I may just go for a NOS setup with good tuning and stick to around 70%(max) of stock power increase.

I just wanna beat the newer cars, or at least make em think twice.haha.

i could probs do that with a turbo set up on low boost but then its not worth having all that potential there (of a turbo) after uv spent money on a decent turbo kit then not do all the engine upgrades and go for 300+bhp.

the way im figure is i spend around 1100 pounds (yes im from the uk) and have the reliability there with the powr i want and still have the kit available incase i decide for a k20a swap later.

A lot of the U.K. guys get misinformed. You can do 300hp on the stock engine just fine if you get the right equipment and right tuning. THis is a very common hp goal that people attain in the states. 1100 pounds is just under 2000 USD. Not quite enough to get the good quality parts needed to make a really reliable setup. If you had about 2000 pounds, you'd be all set.

so whats wheel hp? obviously 300bhp would be like 200 or so wheel hp?
i have been reading up and have seen that stock internals can handle upto about 300hp but it depends on the amount of psi ur using and the size of the turbo..ie a bigger turbo with low psi will have the same boost as a smaller turbo with a higher psi?

obviously i understand its all about the tuning and ignition timing..the standard compression rate on the b1a2 is slightly higher than needed so a finer tune/ignition timing would be needed>?

i jst get confused with the 'bores' of lower compression pistons.

i guess if they can handle upto around 300bhp with stock internals i could boost upto around 260 with a good tune and still be reliable as a daily driver?

pretty hard to make a damn decision.if later i decide for a k20a swap then a nos kit already installed in my car can be transferred over but so can a turbo i guess?

ive seen some of the civics on youtube with turbo's on....lol..if im happy with 260-290bhp then i guess its the option for me.but the only thing is a k20a can be coming my way DIRT cheap...like 500pounds for the engine/loom/box etc etc but then its all about doing the swap which is really a headache...the turbo kit is sort of 'bolt on' then fine tune the problems out....the k20a is a headache...for a 20-30more bhp and some more torque when with the same money i could be rolling 250+bhp.

am gonna be lookin into the stock 300bhp business....lol
