header install any tips?
i want to install megan headers into my si, im use to working on older civics, ie. ef ek eg, the works, and it looks like its going to be a pain in the *** to install these headers, since the headers are in the back towards the dash. any tips? much appreciated, i already assumed that i should take it to a lift and work from under the car, any helpful tips would be appreciated thanks
A lift will make it a whole lot better. I just installed a Vibrant on my car and I didn't have any difficulty other than getting the lower header bolts off. Pull off the metal plate under the plastic under the wipers for more room.
the megan headers aren't a race header, so the install will be a lot easier.
all u need to do is unbolt the down pipe/cat then unbolt the header and swap it from up top maybe after you remove the cowl piece under the windshield.

yes correct best way to get at the exhaust manifold is from underneath but in order to get top manifold nuts your going to want to take off the cowl. remover wiper arms first of all next under your hood there are 3 plastic clips(look more just like those push rivets but dont know how else to describe they clip) after you have those 3 undone you should be able to pull cowl off. its difficult for you to really want to yank on it but your going to have to. lift upwards on the piece closest to your engine there are 6 clips actual clips that are right along your windshield. when you lift up by your engine your going to want to pull the cowl towards you. be careful of the 2 pieces that are at the ends by where your wiper arms mount they will break if you dont do it carefully. so yeah lift up away from engine and pull towards you in sequence. also its hard to get the cowl out from under your hood once it is removed also hard to instal back. once you get it out of your way there is that metal shield that is directly underneath plastic cowl remove that and away you go. this way you MAY be able to get all bolts at head from top.
Max do you really think a shorty would be that mucheasier to install? I'm pretty sure you'd still have to remove and re-install essentially the same stuff.
Also, spray every nut/bolt you'll be removing (aside from the one that holds the metal splash shield into the engine bay) with PB Blaster or another penerating lubricant before wrenching on anything. It will make the whole thing much easier.

haha i would love to see you take off your cowl with out taking off your wipers. first thing your going to do is break those plastic clips that hold the center piece to the side pieces. i took them off. 2 bolts or break **** on new crispy car. im not a hack

Dude...you're wrong. Dead wrong. All you have to do is turn your ignition to the number 2 position, so that you can turn the wipers on. Turn them on, and then when the arms are all of the way up (against the sides of the windshield, or A pillars) turn the key back and off, so that the wipers stay there. Then, you can take the cowl piece out no problem. I've done it countless times, and never broken a thing.

dude i do it all time. i just did it saturday when i checked to see if my skunk2 header was cracked yet. i can even take all the stuff off and take a pic. all i do is raise the hood all the way and lift u the wiper arms and put up the bar that holds the hood up in the hole in the bottom of the hood. i've been doing this for over 2 years already. ease off.
im not wrong... the chances are someone who hasnt done this before (like you said you have done it so many times you cant count) will break something. IE plastic tabs on center cowl piece. i have seen many of noob techs at honda break those very same tabs off. i give your props to the good luck you have had. still stubborn old me dosnt nor would i ever want to risk it on my car or anyone else's car . ive learned in the past just do it right the first time.

to take off your stock header make sure you flip it from right to left because theres a bracket on the right side that wont allow it to come out. take off the cowl and the vc for extra room but the cowl will do just fine
I didn't know you could do the shorty ones from the top. IDK...I did my BCRH all by myself. Once I realized that the bracket on the bottom of the header was going under the oem bracket that it mounts to (rather than over it) the header slid right on.
ever have a problem with the header coming apart? having the springs fall off?
