Default Checking in like a good Noob

Hay everyone...I just bought a 1994 EG hatch. It has a GSR motor swap (Bar'd), GSR leather int. Eibach springs, Ground Control coilovers. It has its issues and we are currently looking to rebuild the motor. It seems to be burning oil, and I know that is signs of bad oil rings or valve seals. So either drop in new oil rings/valve seals or should I just rebuild the bottom end??? That is the question. Any advice???

if the cylinder walls are no good they need to be bored out, then that would justify a rebuild, but if you can just hone it, i'd just replace all the rings and leave it at that

this is given your 100% sure its worn rings

I am pretty sure it's the rings. Pretty much ruled everything else out and it's still has blueish smoke coming from the exhaust, especially in vtec. I did research here on the forums and pretty much everyone says oil rings/valve seals. Compression is 190/191/185/190. Motor was running rich when I bought the car due to some idiot who installed a Skunk2 intake manifold and did not read directions installed the plastic spacers for the fuel rail which prevented the injectors from sealing. It also has a virgin P28 ecu which has now been replaced with a chipped P28. Any other ideas before I drop the car off someplace to have it checked out and replace rings/valve seals?

I would check it out with a leakdown test. you are going to be able to pinpoint the problem. if the air is escaping through the oil cap its the rings. if its coming out the intake or exhaust its in the valves. If you are planning on keeping the car, i would go with new rings and also rebuild the top end. and welcome to honda-tech

Good advice. Thanks. If I do go for a rebuild what is the hot setup these days?I have been recommended to go with CTR 12:1, skunk2 stage 1 cams, with a potted head. Thoughts??? Daily driven with some fun
