How soon is too soon?
I recently rebuilt a B18A1 to full oem specs. It's in my DD, and has been doing great. I've read, and been told to use "cheap non-synthetic" oil for the first part of the engine's life. I changed the oil/filter after the first 5, 50, 100, 250 and 500 miles.
It's now approaching 1000 miles and has been going strong with zero issues, burning, or leaks.
I'd like to do the switch to full synthetic. Is it too early or should I go another 1000?
Thanks guys!

agreed, synthetic is completely unessesary on a DD(unless it calls for it from the factory)
conventional oils are plenty good enough, especially when compared to the cost difference.
but to answer your question, yes i think you could switch if you want.......but if you do........go ahead and get 2 changes worth the first time. drain the conventional, change the filter, run it til its warm, drain it again and refill......no need to change the filter again......you just want to get as much of the conventional out as possible. from there id change again at 3-5k......then you should be good every 5k.

school, actually its not that they dont like each other, its that conventionals and synthetics affect the rubber of seals differently.........so really its not good to switch from one to the other. BUT since he only has 1000 miles on what i assume are new seals..........he should be ok.
sorry for the confusion.......i knew there was some kinda problem with the 2......its been a while since i was in school.

They are completely compatible, you can buy them in synthetic/conventional 50/50 blends at the store. On an old engine, and at this point I'd be saying 20-30+ years old at least, thats run nothing but conventional oil it's whole life, when switched over to a synthetic, some oil leaks can occur. Sometimes the switch can cause some oil burning on a tired motor but compatibility isn't an issue, especially on newer cars using more modern neoprene seals vs the older cork and paper seals.
