Does it hurt the car to switch from Syn to Reg to Syn oil?
I've heard mixed stories.. I used Mobil1 syn, that got expensive so, now I'm on regular Mobil1 5w-30.. Did I just hurt my engine?
No, you didn't just hurt your engine. The only time that you'd have to worry about using different oil is if your engine has over 100K miles and you've ALWAYS used regular oil. This is a circumstance where you wouldn't want to switch. Otherwise, do what you can afford... just be sure to do it every 3000 miles.
Why would it make a diffrence in an engine with over 100k miles?
I use Halvoline Durablend. My wifes care has 148000 miles. I've considered using a fully synthetic, but the cost for me isn't worth it.

High-mileage engines that have always had normal oil often develop wear patterns, if you will, that are dependant on the thicker lubrication, and often minescule debris contained therein, to seal properly.
