Timing belt broke easiest way to check valves?
So was going about 75mph when the timing jumped and my motor bogged out. Got the timing belt off and all the ribs are gone and the belt is smooth. So now that i have the vc off and everything that was required to take the t-belt off what is the easiest way to check to see if the valves are bent? I heard leakdown but i read the engine should be warm and well i cant start it. Also dont have a leakdown tester and cant find one locally. Is there a better way or should i just get my hands on a leakdown tester and do it with the motor cold?
Yes, check valve adjustment. If clearance is more than .005" - .010" too loose, it has a bent valve for sure. Or you can just throw a belt on it and see how it runs if you are doing the work yourself.
pull the cam or cams out of the engine and run a leak down test. or you could crank it over and run a compression test. just make sure the cam or cams are not present so that way no valves are left open.

A bent valve will not properly seat. Therefore the valve clearance adjustment will be too loose.
96 GSR, I broke a timing belt while cruising about 45 mph, car dies, and my dumb **** tries to crank it. Everyone thought bent valves, but nope. We got lucky....Very lucky.
Loose T belt+ 6000rpm =2 skipped teeth on the timing gears... I got really lucky. Car just bogged out and I didn't have any bent valves.... I thought I blew my engine though, I had the head off 20min after the belt skipped the teeth lol. When I pulled it off only to find nothing wrong with the head or block and I was stumped and very surprised. Got a new headgasket, threw it together and walah - I was back in business.
Good luck.
Good luck.
