Default Greddy Turbo v All

Alright, this dude told me that Greddy could put out 261 whp at 8 psi on a GSR(with the intercooler). I read all the other posts and everyone is saying that the drag and revhard, ect. are much better b/c they produce more power. Im getting maxrev turbo and my friend is flamin' me b/c hes saying he wont have as much lag as me. What do I have on him with my maxrev b/c i see people with REVHard getting 277 whp and thats not that much more than the greddy.

Overall, why is revhard/maxrev/drag better than greddy if they get almost same whp???
please dont flame me for this.

You have a legitmate question, asked in the proper way

Basically in my opinion... if your final goal *IS* the 270hp range.. then yes, the GReddy kit is the better option. You'll have faster spool times, and will probably win more races on the street (Oh yeah, we at Honda-Tech don't do that ).

However, if you plan to exceed say... 300hp, then you'd definitely want to look into a larger turbo. The T3/T4 found in the Revhard/DRAG etc is capable of 450hp or so, and would be a much better candidate if you're looking to *eventually* make that kind of power.

I do like the GReddy kit though. My friend ran one on his Type-R and put down 319whp with pistons and rods... but eventually had to start all over when he wanted to make 500hp, which he did (TurboR).

It's all really a matter of what your expectations are. I think that the T3/T4 is overkill for a stock motor'd street car who expects to be making under 300 horsepower.

Good luck

Nice response...at least it's not one of those responses where people are bashing the GReddy kit.

God no... I think the people who bash the GReddy kit have never ridden in a nice street car with it installed and tuned properly. It drives like a factory turbo car, and really hauls ***. People tend to automatically bash it because of a "small downpipe" and small this/that... But what they aren't realizing is that the kit is MADE for driveability and not sheer 5500-8000rpm pull.

I've ridden in, and worked on cars with the GReddy kit. It fits very nicely and is the better choice in kits for power under 300whp.

It comes down to a simple question people should ask themselves:

"Why buy a kit with a turbo rated to make 450-550hp when I am expecting to make 270?"

Of course the question doesn't apply if you're planning on going built motor. But if you're not... GReddy all the way.

Hmm this is interesting. I feel kinda stupid now. I was planning on boosting my d16z6 with the rev hard or apex kit and had pretty much dropped the Greddy kit off my shopping list. I have a 93 si hb and want to get in the 12s or low 13s. But i also plan on autoXing soon and a bigger turbo isn't ideal for that. Can the Greddy kit get me into that time bracket? It seems like Greddy would also be cheaper. But the apex kit looks really nice, what kind of lag would i have with it, it being a ballbearing turbo. How does the trim of the apex turbo compare to the t3/t04?
