hello, sorry for not searching but I have very limited internet access,

My 94 civic ex with a d16z6 has developed a rod knock.

My question is if I buy an engine from a salvage yard and it was originally for an automatic, do I have change anything when swapping it in? ex: (pilot bushing or something)

I know thats what you have to on a 300zx z32 but im not as familliar with honda's.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

The engine is the same. You will need obviously need to swap the flexplate for the flywheel on your old engine.

 

yea, figured that. but I dont need to swap the bushing or something where the tranny shaft goes into the engine?

On 300zx's there is a "pilot bushing" that you need to remove when sticking a manual tranny onto an auto trans.

Nothing like that on the d16?

 

dont think so, i dont think there is a pilot bushing on the auto,

 

you will need the pilot bearing that goes into the flywheel. other than that just put the manual trans on along with the flywheel, clutch kit, and throw out bearing.

 

yeah just take the flex plate off and install a flywheel and clutch. Also the throttle body need to be changed if you want to. By the way the flex plate doesn't have a pilot bearing.

 

so is the pilot bushing for auto and manual the same or??

 

If you have your old trans and what not, you should still have your old manual flywheel. It already has the pilot bearing "pressed" in if you had it previously installed.

Everything from your old trans stays, the wrecking yard will already have the automatic flex plate removed. (if not, remove it)

Bolt your Manual flywheel on WITH YOUR FLYWHEEL BOLTS FROM THE MANUAL TRANS. (the automatic flex plate bolts are shorter and will result and utter failure)

If need be, you may want to replace the clutch while its out. And if that is so you can get a complete clutch kit that will include a new Pilot Bearing, Throwout Bearing, Clutch Disk, and Pressure Plate. If you do however get a new clutch I would recommend getting your flywheel resurfaced.
