It should go down lower than that, I had an issue with mine after not using it for awhile where it didn't go all the way down (similar to that) Keep raising it all the way and lowering it, it'll go back in.
No you should not just put it up and down more till it goes down correctly. The issue you have is the elastic bands that pull the second support bar into place as the top lowers has worn. Once this happens the bar does not quite get into place and causes the top to sit in the position you have shown. If you continue to put the top up and down you will cause the top to wear holes right above your head. You have two options either go to honda and buy replacement straps and have them install or you install (note installing yourself is a some what scary project as you will need to drill out the rivets holding in the old straps in close proximity to the soft top itself. Second option go to Modifry and get the aftermarket straps and install them here is the link also in the link is a better example of why this happens

I used the Modifry straps as it was cheaper the install was less risky no drilling.
Either way you choose it will fix your problem, good luck.

Yes they have to be elastic, they pull the two bars in the top together as the top is lowered. If you use nylon there is no tension there and for all purposes might as well not be there.

Moved it up and down twice and then it was fine from then on.
if you dont want to replace the elastic, when the top is about 1/2 way down, you can push the 2nd bar down so that it goes under the latches, then lower the top the rest of the way . i had to do this for a couple of weeks till i got around to replacing the elastic
It's the elastic bands! They caused a tear in my top when it was cold out not all that long after I bought my S! Do what J'dogg suggested and push the bar down as the top goes back over your head.

^^^ what jdogg and white suggested... theres a bar that can pivot in 2 directions when folding... if the bar pivots one way the top will go down correctly but if it goes the other way the outcome will look like your picture... and this is ultimately caused by worn bands...
Came in here to say that I had the same problem. Ordered the modifry kit on Friday afternoon. Got an email that they shipped Saturday. They arrived in the mail today.
The whole process took MAYBE 25 minutes, and a solid 20 minutes of that was completing the first side. The other side was eaaaaaasy after that. Straps are nice and tight and pull the bar back great!
The old straps had no elasticity left. After cutting them and trying to pull to stretch them, they moved maybe 1/2 inch.
to modifry and their easy, inexpensive fix.

Mine does fine now that I know the trick...LOL And all it takes is a light flip of the bar when it starts to go ower your head. As the top goes back the bar wants to stay foreward....just flick it back (about an inch is all) and it does the rest by itself
Mine isn't going down all the way either. I've had it since December and was pretty sure there was an issue going on somewhere, and now this thread confirms it. Looks like I'll be getting my first warranty repair next week.
Thanks, good to know, should make getting this fixed very easy. I'm so happy I saw this before it ripped the top! I thought it was possibly normal because my Miata's top never went all the way down either.
