Default ultra safeguard help

Hi everyone this is my first post on h-t but iv been lurking around for awhile now and im in the process of a turbo install and run into a little problem with the safeguard.
heres some info on the car.

1993 civic 4dr lx ,b18b with a s1 tranny
450cc dsms and walbro 255hp pump
p75 chipped running crome
ebay cast manifold and 14b turbo
fmic.

ok so i hooked the unit up as per instructions for the input #1 and output #2 (cut and splice icm wire A21 green/red) and it starts and runs fine for about thirty seconds then engine starts to hiccup and the tach starts jumping around and the timing just starts retarding in till it wont rev past 2500 rpm. iv talked to john at j&s and hes not really sure on what it is and i was hopping to maybe have some luck on here trying to figure this out.
thanks

Is the sensitivity set too high? Does John think the box might be defective?

no the sensitivity is all the way down. i even unhooked the knock sensor.
me and john talked about the possibility of a bad box but i really dont want to go through with sending it back just for him to say its something wrong on my half but im pretty sure iv hooked it up every way possible so its starting to lean to the bad box scenario....

I have one of those also, and it causes my tach to move around and act funny. My tach is driven right off the coil, I don't remember if that's how it is on the civic. I don't understand how it affects the tach without making it miss, but that's what it does with my car.

What my tach will do is act like it's sticking, it won't drop down like it should when I rev the motor, for the first few minutes of driving. Then it chills out, and works normally. If I turn the sensitivity all the way up, so it'll falsely retard the timing, the tach will just jitter approximately where the rpm is when the motor bogs, it won't move smoothly up and down at all. Guess I don't need the knock indicator gauge..
