why does this sound so bad? 2.5 inch piping no leaks. muffler had 3 inch inlet? whats the deal? ebay high flow cat, ebay header, 2.5 inch piping and this muffler

Note that in my vid ^ it sounds better when there is a load on it and its a $100 camera so the sound quality isn't the best.


ah, just noticed he only bought the muffler. What did you guys do about the resonator since you did custom piping?

 

well the guy just bent up pipe at his shop here. he didnt have one put on.. he bought this muffler a week ago for 250 brand new. had it shiped here put it on and when we went to pick it up it was so loud and coffee can sounding he had it taken off and the ebay n1 knock off put back on.. so i said maybe a glasspack would make it sound better?

 

Well if he doesn't have a resonator...thats the problem.

I've got the Apexi WS2 catback, not just the muffler. Also remember, that the muffler has to break in. Also, you got the 3 inch version which is supposed to be used for turbo'd cars. It probably has less restriction/muffling.

You can use a glass pack which should work fine, but those burn out after awhile.

 

thats what i figred... he thought the 3 inch owuld be better but didnt ask me so he didnt know to just get the 2.5 like his car.. either hes gonna sell this muffler or try and put a glass pack or resonator on.. idk what he wants to do.. but its unfortunate for him.

 

Yeah, that does suck.

For spending that much on JUST a muffler he should have done more research! If that ebay exhaust has a resonator, why not just cut off the fart can and weld the WS2 on?

 

he also just bought the ebay muffler for $29 lol.. no resonator.. =(

How about using quality parts to start with, you definitely didn't skimp on the muffler, I have no idea why you did everywhere else.

2.5" is WAY more than enough for a 2.2L motor, I had 2.5 on my H22.

eBay cat is certainly not helping things
eBay header isn't helping either (but I had one too)

A better catalytic converter (or quality test pipe) and a resonator as well as good piping (stainless) will help the sound.

 

a 3in exhaust with resonators out without is going to be super loud...and not sound the greatest.

stick with the 2.25 if you want it to be quiet.
