1999 accord performance chip
im looking into buying a performance chip or vtec controller, what are my options for the best one for the right price. im on a budget and want to get something to make it stand out a bit. it just has an intake on it. its 1999 honda 2.3l vtec. headers are in the process. any other tips would be great on little adds on.
unlike these jerks ill help you out. the search feature is nice when it works.
DO NOT chip your ecu.
that is a giant waste of money. ok if you want some little add ons get an intake (and no need to spend 35232356 dollars on an aem) find the cheapest one on ebay buy it and puchase a k&n filter. the header isnt a bad idea but you better have exhaust. no none of this will get you much but it will add some response, noise and a little power.

Say what?
Actually that search engine is pretty damn useful. And to flat out say chipping your ECU is a waste of money is not the way to go about it.
Chipping your ECU can be quite useful since you cannot tune OBDII. Down-converting to OBDI and chipping it to run either a swapped motor or forced induction or all motor builds is a necessity!
However what the OP is asking about - the performance chips - are generally just resistors in a box you install on some random sensors hanging off the intake manifold and do not do anything. I also would not be purchasing the "Spoon" ECU chips sold on eBay either.
Search works. I typed in "accord performance chip", taken from the title of this thread. The first thread listed was this one. The next 4 listed all said what you said and more. "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime."
and I think the search blows it gives you the most irrelevant crap sometimes. the old forum worked so much better than this new one.

I meant the performance chip....not socketing etc or "chipping" so you can run crome, uberdata etc. the chip im sure he is talking about is one of those cheap pos deals that does nothing.

there is a vtec controller i have seen on ebay and im wondering if anyone has used them. also will a cam gear affect anything? im trying to get my car a little quicker in the bottom end due to racing it in the spring and summer time.
PLEASE, use the search tips that TheMuffinMan laid out and you will find more in depth answers. Trust us on this one.
I'll even help you out by throwing you some threads I found in 2 minutes of searching. Hopefully this may help out others who would otherwise start ANOTHER VTEC controller/ecrap performance chip thread.
VTEC controller info:

And for cam gears: You don't need them UNLESS you have an aftermarket cam(s). No real point adjusting the stock one(s).
Good luck!
