Default Differential gone?

driving the car makes a winning noise while in gear, when in nutral you hear all kinds of clicking and clanking. so i buy a new clutch kit, fly wheel, bearings ext. and after all the labor i still have the same winning and clanking. also, i noticed there was metal shavings in the tranny fluid and when i push in the clutch there is a delay on when the clicking stops. this is why i think its the diff. any thoughts / suggestions? should i rebuild or just buy another?

there are probably teeth from a gear floating around in the bottom of your tranny. while the gears are spinning the pieces are bouncing around and making noise. you push in the clutch, the gears slowly stop spinning hence the delay in the noise stopping

Dude just take it out and have a look inside. But that does sound like broken teeth. A trans doesn't necessarily grind or slip out just because the teeth are screwed. your synchos could still be fine HENCE: The nice smooth shift with nasty sounds. Just take it out do a lil research on the break down and see. If your'e not mechanically inclined just dont take the gearsets out, when you take the case off you can see everything.

what you are describing is not a differential problem, pressing in the clutch would not cause a differential problem to slowly quiet down and go away.

gears don't "slip" so not having any slipping does not mean anything, and you can have broken gear teeth without any grinding, so not having grinding doesn't necessarily mean anything either. you need to take it apart and find out what's broken, your description is not sufficient for us to tell you 100% what's wrong with it. either replace it or have it rebuilt.
