Default Rear Disk Hub Swap

I've seen a million rear disk conversion write ups on here (for eg's, ef's, etc.). But, I've never seen anyone swap just the hubs, it's always the trailing arms. I've heard it mentioned as being possible though.

The reason I ask is because I have some DA trailing arms that I'd like to put on my EG, but I need to remove the hubs anyway (I think) to install some ARP wheel studs. So, I was thinking maybe it would be easier to try it from this approach instead?

it's possible to convert from drum to disc (without swapping out your trailing arms) by using a scarebird bracket

Wow, thanks for the info. I never heard of that kit, I always thought it was a direct bolt on affair. I think I'll save the cash and just swap the trailing arms. I just need some brake lines.

Now if we could only bolt on the rear disks from a second gen cr-v for some sweet awd 6-speed k-swap action.

It is a bolt on affair. You only need the scarebird bracket if you're using the original Drum spindle.

I was drunk when I was looking at those brackets haha.

But I was meaning to ask how difficult is it to just swap out the spindles w/ the whole assembly... which just bolt on from the back of the trailing arm right?

A nut and some torx screws isn't it? I'm guessing those screws won't wanna come out.
If they're gonna put up a fight like the dreaded rear LCA bolts then I won't bother and swap out the whole arm.

it's fairly simple. after removing the trailing arms assembly from your car, flip it over to where the drum is facing down. there will be 1 big nut on the back, which i think is something like a 22-26mm nut. it has been a while since i have done this so i'm sorry i don't know the exact size. then you should also see 4 round holes in the trailing arm itself around the nut. you'll need a 6" extension and a torx 50 bit to remove the bolts that are accessed by these holes. they are kinda difficult to break loose so be careful not to strip out the heads. after that, installation of the disc hub assembly is just reverse order. hope that helps.

I ran into a brief write-up on another website, I think by brake expert. He said the torx screws can be almost impossible to get out even with the trailing arm off the car and using air tools. From the sound of it, I have little chance of getting those out with the arm still on the car. So there's no point for me to go this route for a swap, might as well just swap out the entire trailing arm. I guess there's a reason everyone does it that way.

i've done it on numerous rear trailing arms without problem. they are tight but not "almost impossible". just use a breaker bar instead of a ratchet and you should be able to get them off with a little "umph" behind it.

Yep, its true. Its generally easier to swap the entire trailing arm.
