Default Honda Woesssssss.....

I decided to separate this topic from my "build" thread, so I can get some clearer answers.

Link for reference: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...&highlight=gsr

Ok.. So I got the motor put together and running. Ran real strong for 2 weeks, then tragedy struck. Still unsure if it was due to the oil pump, or the dented oil pan, but the motor was starved of oil and spun a few bearings. I believe the cylinder walls may have been scared at the same time. The crank, thank god, wasn't scarred, at least anything you could see with your naked eye. So, I threw in some new bearings because I NEED the car running.

There's still a slight knock under slight load (from 1200 - 1500ish), but goes away after that. This leads me to believe it will only get worse as time passes on.

So here is where I need advice. I've read that some people have had trouble with this particular setup up. I'm looking to rebuild and DON'T want to do it a 2nd, or 3rd time.

Current setup:
GSR block
LS Crank
OEM LS rods
PR3 pistons (stock bore)
Oil squirters were bent to clear crank

Should I keep this block, bore it, throw in some eagle rods and rs machine(?) pistons, have it balanced and run it with hope it'll stay together. Or, should I just go with an LS/Vtec setup?

Right now, I'm leaning more towards the LS/V setup up. Both are available to me. I was thinking of boring the block to B20 spec (84mm?).

Setup I'm thinking about:
LS block
OEM LS crank
OEM bearings
OEM oil/water pump
Eagle rods
84mm wiseco pistons (11.5ish compression)

What would be the best route to take? I don't want to go through this again (at least anytime soon).

If you need anymore info, I'd be glad to give it.

You'd need to have the block sleeved to be able to bore out to 84mm but this would be a nice setup.

Absolutely have to?

My friend JUST sold his B20 block.. D-D-D-Dammit man.. :[[ That kinda puts a bump in the plans.

So what would be the ideal bore to open up the LS block to?

The most you can go would be 82mm.

possibly but if anything goes wrong, that block can't be bored again.

Understandable.

Which is why I want to use an LS block this time around. Cheaper and easier to find.

81.5mm 10.5:1 Wiseco pistons in a GSR block with LS crank and rods would yield somewhere around 11.7:1? Just want to make sure before I commit to the purchase.

It will only go up by about .2, all things being equal, so 10.7:1 however, measuring and cc'ing is the only way to have 100% accuracy.

I was a little out of it last night.. But it would only yield a ~11+ compression ratio if the pistons are for a B16 with stock stroke, correct? I figure because utilizing B16 pistons will yield a compression ratio in that vicinity.

Just going to go with a 82mm PR3 RS Machine piston.

If the 10.5:1 was in a B16a then installing those pistons in a GSR block with LS rods and crank would increase compression roughly 1.5 over that to about 12:1 or so.

Woah... even better. Lol.

Last question (for now), are the RS Machine pistons compatible with Eagle rods?

Also, thanks for your patience and help. It's VERY appreciated.

I PM'd the seller on Ebay (Droopie888) and asked him if they were compatible with eagle rods and he told me, no, they were designed for "stock style" rods.
