I have an OEM muffler that I took from a '00 Civic Si with 45k miles. I've had it sitting around for a few months, and I want to use it to replace the loud muffler on my daily driver. But I don't know if it's any good, because it's full of debris. I can shake it out, and it's rust-colored, some chunks, mostly fine powder though. The muffler is in good shape on the outside, no rust or anything. Is that debris from the catalytic converter, or could the muffler be rusted internally. There was a lot of stuff floating around in there. I got most of it out, still have some shaking to do, though.

 

That fine powder is probably from the fiberglass, don't inhale or touch that.

That exhaust is junk. Sell it as scrap metal.

 

yeah, i'm not sure i'd wanna use that either. try finding an itr muffler, or an rsx typeS muffler. 2.5" inlet and they sound pretty aggressive on civics.

 

I got a $25 thrush turbo muffler from advance auto (the biggest one they had) and it sounded nice and deep, a tiny bit louder than OEM.

Then again my opinion might be biased because I was running open header for a month prior to putting that on.

 

Good call on the Thrush Turbo muffler. I got one with 2 1/4" inlet and outlet, finished it with a nice little chrome tip. It sounds awesome. Nice and quiet on the highway, so it doesn't drown out my stereo, and a nice growl when I hit the VTEC. Coupled with my glasspack and high-flow cat, it's a really nice exhaust system.
