Bitch pin is being a bitch.
Hey guys, figured I'd ask your thoughts on this. I'm having trouble getting the shift linkage pin out, and I've tried everything short of drilling it. So my question is, has anyone drilled one of these things before, and if so, what size of bit should I use? Should I look for a special type of bit for drilling through this (seemingly tough) metal? Thanks in advance
I would not recommend drilling it out. I got mine out with a very long 1/4" extension from the top. So if you did drill, I imagine you would use something slightly smaller than 1/4". Make sure you have the correct replacement. If you don't get the right one your shifter will feel like junk.
You can't get at it from the top, the trans case is in the way. I dont think this is an oem shift pin, I think somebody jimmy rigged something in there. The transmission is on my floor btw, I just dropped it with the linkage still attached.
Thats exactly what I tried, there is simply not enough space between the transmission and the shift fork. You can fit the c-clamp, but not with the socket in there.

really? can you get a pic? cause one, the case shouldn't be in the way (i've done it three times from the top with the tranny out). now unless it isn't a oem shift pin, that would be different.
Yes, just like that, there is just not enough space, the fork with it pulled out as far away from the transmission casing itself as it gets, is still only about 2.5" of clearance.
Thats the link I got the idea from. I have my camera at the house, I will take pictures.

Thank you so much guys, I finally got it (and figured out what I was doing wrong). The illustration pic is backwards for the clamp. I was trying to put the socket on the tranny side, instead of putting it on the open side (where it makes more sense anyways). Putting the allen bit on the close quarters side with the fixed end of the c clamp made it work like a charm. About 10 minutes later, I had my shift linkage off. Thanks again guys.
Honda makes a special tool just for the bitch pin. It's a perfectly sized air hammer bit. I have one and with it you can take out the bitch pin in a few seconds. If you do a lot of work on Hondas I would highly recommend it.
although i've heard that works quite well, i cringe at the thought of smacking the **** out of my gear selector with a hammer
i'll just stick to the c-clamp method lol
