my header doesnt reach my catalytic converter
ok i was just given an aftermarket header, and it doesnt reach my catalytic converter by about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. is there anything i can do to pull the exhaust forward? maybe i could take off the rubber things that keep the exhaust from falling so i can pull the exhaust forward and then reconnect using a **** ton of rubber bands? lol
Rubber bands? Your kidding right lol? Do you know they would burn off within 5 minutes of your car running... You need to get flanges welded to each end like Geoff said. Not everything in the honda world bolts up directly, so your probably going to have to take it to a shop to get it to fit. Prob cost you around $60-120 depending on the shop.
You might be able to take the exhaust off the hangers and move it forward a bit and reconnect it if its really only a 1/2in gap. Now if its was like a 1 1/2 gap then yea I'd take it to a muffler shop.
If you wanna do it ghetto, go to a auto zone, schucks or w.e and get a pipe that is the same size, and 2 U Clamps. Otherwise go to a muffler shop.
I had this issue with both of my headers, you need to make a small piece with the correct flanges on both ends, it wont help or hurt performance, just connects it

does it take a lot of experience to weld that? and what about a gasket? b/c im guessing there wont be one
What how are you going to put a 1/2" test pipe between there? The flange ends are bigger than that. That would be a good idea if he were replacing the cat. And to weld a piece of pipe or use a piece of pipe with U-bolt clamps you would need to cut both the flanges off. Seems easier to push the exhaust foward that tiny amount. The exhaust isnt bolted to the frame and is designed to move.
I LOLed thanks Eli
If you put too much stress on the stock hangers they will eventually break. Your exhaust is designed to move. The motor torques during operation and consequently the exhaust has to be able to move with it.
So the way I would play it is, if the exhaust wont move the 1/2" freely or with little resistance due to the hangers, I would take it to an exhaust shop and have it welded.

so i took apart my old header and used the bottom piece combined with the 4-2-1 piece of the new header, but now the header is really freakin low. like it has about 2 inches clearance lol i scrape like crap. if i make a mistake and hit a bad speed bump or something, is worst case scenario that i rip the header off? like could i screw up the engine by ripping up the header? lol
The bottom of my headers are extremely low too. I've scrapped a few times, nothing serious, just go really slow over bumps and you'll be ok. Either that or raise the car up.

I just had him cut the flange off the cat, weld in 2" of pipe, and put it back together. Took about 20 minutes.
Find a local exhaust shop. If they're worth a hoot, they should fix it for you cheap.
