when i bought this hatch it had a black light behind the bumper so i yanked it out without realizing that the cable wire for the hood was wrapped around it for some reason, anyways it came loose. so i couldnt open it from the inside latch anymore. i had to pull it to the left from the bumpers grill. and the day before i went to try and open it and it just completely came off from where it grabs to the t brackets ring. so how can i pop it open? is it best to take it to a mechanic or a body/paint shop? or do i find a way to jack it up and find some way to DIY? its still running through the firewall and fender so hopefully i can re-use it.

 

This is a common problem, do a quick search for "hood cable" or "hood wont open" there are tons of threads to read through.

take the front bumper off and the front filler and try and unbolt the latch. g/l

 

Easy solution (what I do) Put a wrench, screwdriver, something about 1/2" to 1" thick in between the headlight and hood... The pop the latch. Should pop it right up as long as your cable isn't broken. Then if you still have the rubber adjusters on the hood, adjust them to be longer.

Worked for me... But then again, his hood issue, may be different than mine.

 

Take off the bumper so you have more room to open the hood.

 

hi what you do is cut the cable where it came loose...or just cut it anywhere , then yank on the black outer cover and pull off the black tube/cover. then you will have the cable still attached to the latch...just pull on the cable...towards the right
