Default 1997 Honda Accord Electrical Problem????

After doing a Vtech head swap on my 1997 Honda Accord, the main wire on the alinator touched a ground and sparked.... the dash lights flash, the main relay just clicks, the speedometer and tachometer bounces when trying to start.... sometimes it will actually start but runs like crap and will not go out of gear....
I have replaced the main relay but that did not fix the problem....
I can not figure out what the problem is??????????????????

First off check all your fuses. Check FUSE 15 In the engine bay. What you did has a very good possibility that you fried the ecu, or burnt up a ground wire. So check all the grounds in the engine bar. Block, trans, and the battery ground.

But from what you are describing it sound like the ECU fried so, try swapping w/ someone once you are sure all your grounds are good.

Sound kind of like a ground is not connected or fully connected.

Thats why you always disconnect the ground from the battery when working on the car.
Its an an amateur mistake.

Super helpful post bro!

OP,

Have you since tested the alternator to verify it's actually working still? Should be ~14V across the battery terminals while running.
