Default What's the proper way to install a new valve cover gasket set?

mines leaking, I'm going to replace it. Do I use rtv or something?
Can you leak engine oil from the transmission? My tranny has oil on it but my transmission level is full. So it's engine oil, but I can''t find where it's coming from.
My guess is the valve cover because I installed one a while back but didn't do it rite. Someone said I had to use rtv
how do I stop a transmission leak if it is the transmission

Who ever told you to use rtv is wrong. You do not need it if you are replacing the gasket with another gasket. To install it remve the valve cover nuts. Then take off the valve cover. Next remove the old gasket, your new set should come with new spark plugtube seals. I recommend replacing it all at once. Pry off the old tube seals now place the new ones in. If you are having problems with the new gasket you can add a small dab of rtv ONLY to hold the gasket in place while you place the valve cover back on the head. Then you are done.

RTV should be used in the sharp corners of the gasket where the distributor is.

make sure both the gasket and the surface where it seals are both completely clean and dry.

The oil leaking on your transmission might be coming from you cam seal, but first what motor do you have? Only dohc motors have cam seals.
It could also be leaking from the distributor o-ring.

RVT should be applied to the sharp corners of the gasket, by that I mean the corners of the humps for the cam and distributor.

Well,
My mechanic found the leak, it's this thing on the back of the engines head blocked by meal plates. I think it might be for a vtec solenoid
He tightened it and it stopped. is there a special gasket for this bock off plate?

RTV on the corners. Okay

Engine is sohc zc
pm3 head
new distributor, not the problem
thanks

I'm not sure what plate you're reffering to, but if it stopped the leak i guess thats all that matters.

is it dohc or sohc

youve got a SOHC ZC dont you? cuz youre describing the block off plate that you put on a previously carburated head from japan. thats an opening for the mechanical fuel pump whcih you obvously arent using.

your cam has a funny lobe on it at the distributor side that now doing nothing....

i thought you said your mechanic tightened it up and fixed the leak? you may want to pull it off and apply either the hondabond stuff or some of toyota's fipg. my mechanic friend swears by the stuff
