Default Dyno results are in!! (Toda B's)

Keeping with my daily updates, continuing from this post: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=271492. Today was the day that I was able to get my car on the dyno and see what kind of power I was putting down to the ground. After a hour and a half of tuning, I am very happy w/ my results. First, my baseline numbers: 181.9 HP / 122.9 TQ. Not a bad start...kinda what I was expecting for the cams being untuned. We start to mess w/ the fueling on the VAFC, trying to keep it as close to 13.2 as possible. Make a pull, gain some HP, make another, gain some more...cool cool. We decided then at this point that this was the most that we were going to get as far as fuel correction goes, now it was time to play with timing. Now this is where things get wierd...kinda. We put the timing at +2,-1....lost power. Put it at 0,-2....lost power. Put it at -2,+2 (just for kicks)....couldn't even get the car to turn over. So what did we end up learning, best HP and TQ curves were found with the cams set at 0,0. I found this odd as well as the person doing the tuning but I remembered something that I've heard on this board time and time again: No two cars with the same exact mods react the same/produce the same power. I wasn't discouraged, I now know that mine likes to be set at 0,0, that's all. So in the end, my final numbers that I put down were 194.4 HP / 127.0 TQ. Me myself, I am very happy with these numbers. I don't know if others expected more or what not with my setup, but oh well, each car is different. I'll try and get the graphs scanned in the morning. Below is my list of mods for everyone to see, enjoy.

NOT bad realy good I was hopping oyu would break the 200whp mark but never the less good numbers mabe if you got a full 2.5 cat back you could make the extra power to break it.

Great numbers, almost back to factory numbers......

Any goals to reach 200?

Heh, yea, I'm working on it. There's always a goal to make more power, and I'd definately like to see it, unfortunately I don't think it's going to be any time soon being that I'm now poor as a joke. Oh well, for the time being, I'll be more than content.

Just curious, did you adjust the VAFC when you were adjusting the timing? You said you adjusted the VAFC, then you adjusted the timing so I'm not sure if you adjusted the VAFC after the timing.
Just thinking, maybe you needed to add a bit a fuel after advancing the timing.

sounds like they left all your power on top end, should have brought it to the midrange and you would see more TQ, less HP. Peak HP is not always the best thing, especialyl when I didnt see ecu upgrade with at least a higher rev limiter on your list of mods.

.....here's the thing that I got best results with - tuning the a/f ratio AFTER changing the cam gears. I assume you set your timing back to say 18 degrees after moving the intake cam gear, right? (Of course using the factory jumper so the ECU wouldn't compensate...?)

I'll tell you that on my stock compression itr, I got the best results by retarding the exhaust cam (this gave me higher peak whp) and advancing the intake cam (this gave me more midrange)... It seemed to like closer to 14:1 than 13:1... Also, vtec engagement is at 6200 for me - it was a flatline transition that way... very smooth.

Post up your graph and we can compare from there!

I think I used 6200 on mine as well. Perfectly smooth transition. Car got louder, that was it.

BTW - Your torque seems low. What does it look like from say, 5k --> 7k? Get that plot scanned for us!

Hmm...I know that I'm not expert when it comes to dyno tuning a car yet. I'm still learning what to do as far as advancing/retarding or adding/subtracting fuel so you guys would know more than I would. I was only going off of what my dyno guy thought was best for the car, I had no imput as to what to do when so i dunno... Perhaps he just wasn't familar with these style cams and what they like when? Or perhaps I would get better results if I took my car elseware? Anyways, here's a digi pic of my chart, no scan available yet. Sorry for the size but I know how you guys like detail. Anymore comments/suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks again.

From the dyno, it looks like you need to retard the exhaust cam and advance the intake cam like Black R said.

Try exhaust -1/+2 intake

Theres one problem right there.
Also you didnt move the cam gears enough. 2 degrees is NOTHING.
You also need to move vtec higher

Yea, I am happy with the power I got right now....but after hearing everyone's comments and them thinking that I can get more out of her with the right tuning, I'm very eager to get back on a dyno! That's definately where my next dollars are going to go for the car. Just gotta find a good tuner to do it.....know of anyone within a few hour drive of NE Ohio??

One quick question...would upgrading the plugs and the wires be a good idea with my current setup. My HP goes flat at about 7900...could that be from bad tuning or perhaps from a bad spark? Just wonderin really. Thanks again.

Well, I would stay with the plug wires you have on there now. Honda plug wires are in most instances better than aftermarket plugs.

I dunno what plugs you should go with though.

Even with the suggestions those seem to be very impressive numbers.
I swear I learn more and more each day from the helpful people on this board, now if I only had some money to put it to use...
