Will adjustable cam gears affect emissions?
If I have the Intake cam advanced +2 degrees and the exhaust retarded -1 degree, do you guys think this will affect emissions? Just wondering because my brother has to get his car smogged.

I know you can put them back to 0, 0 but my brother is going to get it smogged tomorrow morning and he already put the stock valve cover, and the plastic side cover back on. So I guess it will be smogged with the intake at +2 and the exhaust -1. Just wondering if anybody could tell me if he will be alright or not.
He just put the uncut valve cover back on and the plastic cover that goes on the cam gear side, so the gears are covered up and everything looks stock.

First, if they are not at 0,0 it is illegal. Second, how strict are they?
But it's only illegal if you get caught. I doubt you'll fail the actual smog test with cam gears set that close to stock. What gets everyone in Cali is the visual inspection, and with an uncut valve cover/timing belt cover they will not be able to tell.

illegal is illegal. if you if you wanna go for it, no ones stopping you but be prepared to pay the penalty.
