Default tuning/ chipping ecu advice

hey honda tech. i had a question regarding tuning. my setup is a boosted (garrett t04e) jdm b20b bored/ sleeved block with 9.0 to 1 comp. ratio pistons, and a ported/ polished jdm b16a head with type r cams with a new supertech valvetrain and a 68mm tb. i am new to the tuning world which is why all help is appreciated. i am almost finished with my build (1994 Civic CX Hatch) and have a local tuner shop called Innovative Tuning. my questions are...

- wise choice for an ECU?? i heard p28 is most common or should i use a p72

- my tuner is apparently a neptune wh*re so i would like to run either that or crome** which one?? from experience

- i would like to run a basemap to get me to the tuners. a heard phearable.net has basemaps avaliable. (i dont get the concept of a basemap and if that is a physical chip that needs to be sodered in?"

guidance is helpful. i just want to choose the correct ECU and chip so i will be prepared for the tuner.. thanks, nick

Get your self a pre-chipped obd1 p28 spec ecu.

Stay away from crome as a final tuning solution, neptune, ectune or hondata would be ideal.

p28 will be cheaper and just as good as the p72. p72 has a knock board but the stock honda knock sensor is usless.

I would go with the Neptune has alot more features then crome so you have more options down the road.

As the base map its a map just to get you to a tune. ask your tuner and he should be able to provide you with one to get to his shop safely for the actual tune.

thanks a lot for all the help so far! i have been doing more research and found a p28 ecu with a basemap on phearable.net... i do not know what system that basemap is considered but i am assuming its crome because thats pretty much what the website focuses on. i want to use neptune due to my tuner being a certified neptune tuner. i just need to find a neptune chip for my ecu

They use exactly the same chip.

You can get a basemap with any ECU you purchase from a sponsor on here and it will more than likely be on Crome, since the software is free.

Once you have your ecu, you can use it to get to your tuner. That is what a basemap is made to do, get the car up and running and get you safely to a tuner. Then once you are there, your tuner can tune the car with NepTune, erase your old chip and reprogram it with NepTune.

There isn't a special chip needed if you are going to do the eprom version of NepTune.

or you go to your tuner take the ecu pay for your neptune license, and have him give you a base map. im 100 percent sure he will make you a good map to your specs and he can also ask you many questions since you will be there. then plug your ecu in and drive the car to him on the tune date.

People don't seem to like it anymore. There isn't as much, if any, technical support for it. I still use Crome Pro .bin files for anyone who knocks on my door for a base map. It worked well enough for my DD 3 years ago without any issues. In saying that even I have moved on to eCtune. It has more support and it is a bit easier to use. It also has quite a bit more tuning features.

If all you want is to get your car up and running for as little cost as possible Crome works.

P28 boards are cheaper. Crome is good if you aren't running high horsepower. If you want to just try something that is cheap and to learn on, crome is great for that.
