Default SOHC SWAP HELP

History.

Spun #4 beaing in my d16y8 EL.

Bought another EL for $600 thought it had d16y8 turned out to be a d16z6

Swapped it into my EL did the knock sensor relocate and splice for the crank fluctuation sensor. tried to bolt up my d16y8 dizzy. doesnt line up not 1 single bolt.

used the dizzy of the donor d16z6 motor. looks like the guts were swapped from a previous y8 dizzy to the z6 housing.

motor is in and runs fine and dandy no issues no CEL or anything.

my only concern is i noticed when the motor is TDC the dizzy looks 180 degrees out...the rotor in the cap points down toward the rad support and i beleive it should be up towards the fire wall no?

im not sure. to make it work i put the plug wires on in order of where the rotor sits at TDC and it runs and drives just fine.

so basically im just wondering if anyone had this problem and what the fix would be as i know its not supposed to be like this.

or so i think LOL.

BUT WHY WOULD IT BE OUT 180?

I TRIED TO TURN IN TO WHERE IT SHOULD BE BUT IT WONT SLIDE IN THE CAM LIKE THAT...ONLY SLIDES IN 180 DEGREE'S OUT...

im confused by what you are saying. line up your TDC mark on your crank pulley and see how everything aligns up. if everything is at TDC then there shouldnt be a problem. your best luck is to make sure your timing is dead on by using a timing gun

LOL...

What i am saying is...

When everything is TDC the rotor on the distributor points down and to the rad support which is cylinder #3 is it not?

It should be pointing up toward the firewall for cylinder#1 right?

Well it doesnt and we all know SOHC motors can only have the distributor go in 1 way

you cant be 180 out....this one is...

if it starts and runs fine. then it's not 180* out, it would never start if it was 180* out.
and one would be down and towards the fire wall.

well at TDC it points down and toward the rad support not the firewall....

i had to change the plug wires around in order for it to start....

how are you making sure the motor is at tdc?

if you really want to you can take the distributor off of the motor.

look at the coupler there should be an index mark on the coupler and the distributor housing.

if it's not lined up take off the coupler and flip it around to line it up with the index mark.

tissue in the plug hole of cylinder one and crank by hand till it pops out so its on compression stroke.

i guess by coupler you mean the very end of the distributor that plugs into the cam? i looked at this and it appears to be attached to the whole shaft in the distributor.

when comparing the distributor we are speaking of and one off a d16y8 motor with the rotors on...they are opposite with the index lines paralell

i would use a better method of getting to tdc to ensure that you are there.
you could use the timing marks on the crank, or you could put a long thin screw driver in the plug whole and rotate the crank until the screw driver reaches it's highest height

the motor is @ TDC.

im not a moron. the reason i use the tissue is so i know the motor is on compression stroke and not exhaust...

the "up" on the cam gear is up the 2 marks that have to be paralell to the head are on point and the marks on the pulley are proper.

relax chief!
i wasn't calling you a moron. there are different ways of doing things and i simply recommended the use of a different way.

just flip the coupler around and arrange your wires the proper way. it should be all good then.

Still isnt fixed havent had a chance to look at the coupler...

I bet that the issue here as i beleive the previous installer swapped d16y8 guts into a d16z6 housing

stupid P08! should be stamped POS.

I like your slogan "if it aint broke dont fix it"

I just wanted to question it as it damn sure aint right but it works and i do not have any CEL'S so i guess it doesnt hurt.

Appreciate the efforts guys
