IS HIGH HP AXELS REALLY NEEDED FOR 600WHP
we getting ready tostart putting the cars together and i keep hearing ppl saying i need to buy high performance axels for my setup, my power goals is around 477whp on 93 and a little under 600whp on c16. the car will be driven on short commutes, and will be tracked almost every weekend. my tranny will be built.

I have neverrr broken an axel. I did however upgrade to DSS 3.9s just for ease of mind.
If it's not your axel, it's going to be the clutch, and when it's not the clutch it will be the tranny.
Learn to pre-load..
thanks i thought i was gonna be called a noob for asking i may just upgrade to be on the safe side, do they eat trannies?
But with Honda drivetrain, if it's not one thing it's the other. Eventualy the weakest link will go. (it's usually the one you "cheaped" out on)

id rather have an axle let go than a transmission so imo its all or none. i wouldnt do axles without a gearset unless you want to start going through transmissions. if you treat them right stock axles can last a while.
i try to preload the axels a lil bit before lunch seems to make them last
also i just went and bought 2 new ones with a life time warrantee i just trade them in when the grease starts to squeeze out or they rip.
never had problems with my tranny and this is the 4th year ive been going to the track just my oppinion

ive driven 2 10 second civics with 50+ passes on slicks, 25+k miles on the street between the 2 cars, and have many other friends with 400+whp street driven, and other 10 second hondas none have broken an axle. then you go to the track and there are guys with 300whp breaking an axles every pass....its 85% how you treat them and 15 percent power.
2 schools of thought.
break axles not trannies.
not break axles, but may break trannies.
personally i hate fixing the car between rounds. broke axles suck. and yeah if you are making power stuff will break.
so you can do one of 2 things:
but a grip of autozone axles, or get a set that wont break.
it is really a question of money and wether or not you wanna fix the car when it breaks.
people have had luck on stock axles. personally, i am glad i threw down on dss 5.9's.

I break axles all the time. And it is not fun anymore. Autozone axles are crap. I cant launch on slicks without them snapping. I preload. If you have the money buy the freaking dss axles. And most guys break the diff in the tranny. I don't know if people are shredding first gear.
