Default LS/VTEC running horrible and shooting smoke!

As the title suggests, my ls/v is shooting mad smoke and sounding like a suburu. I haven't been getting on it, as it is my daily driver. My water pump went out about a week and 3 days ago! Since I've replaced the belt and pump, it's been running funny and it overheated twice earlier today. Like I said, this is my daily driver and I have no idea what would have caused this to happen. Out of the blue this happened tonight with no warning. Any input is welcomed, as I need to get this thing back on the road as soon as possible. Although I think I need to be sourcing a new engine so I can rebuild the the bottom end of my beast ASAP. Anyways that is my plan...but if anyone has any input for a quick fix I'm all ears!

check to see that you put the timing belt on correctly first. then leakdown to see where the problem is.

sounds like a blown head gasket. mine did the same thing, and the headgasket was blown on my car. check for the usual stuff. low compression in two (or more) cylinders, bubbles comming out of the radiator neck, sweet smelling exhaust, milkshake for oil.

the leak down will rule out a blown head gasket rather quickly.

Well, after I removed the head I found out that the head gasket blew around the inside of number 4 cylinder on the exhaust side. I ordered some ARP head studs that should be here within a couple days and already have my replacement head gasket. It only had stock head bolts and I think that was the contributing factor to the head gasket failing. I'll let you guys know how it goes...

there is nothing wrong stock head bolts, i have been running them on my LSV for the last couple years. BUT, mine were all bought new from honda/acura, if they were used then i could see it possibly contributing to the problem.

Yeah, if I put the motor together I would have put ARPs in from the get-go, but I bought it from a friend of mine. I asked him if the bolts were used or not, he said he didn't know so whatever. I figure since its torn down anyways might as well beef it up a little with some ARPs. I can't wait for 'em to get here!
