Default Main bearing clearance is too loose??

Im building a D16Z6 with the Vitara setup. As I was pastigaging the main bearings, the plastigage wasnt flattened at all. With the main caps torqued down to 38 ft lbs, I can actually wiggle the crank a tiny bit. The bearings are ACL Race series and they say 'D16Z6' on the box. Has anyone come across this problem before?

I am using a different crank from another Z6 block that I had due to the original one spinning a rod bearing. Did Honda make two different size cranks for these motors?

Also I think I'm just going to go with Honda bearings but I didnt see any letters on the block? Maybe I wasnt looking hard enough.

Any input would be appreciated.

You need to have everything measured with a micrometer and a dial-bore gauge (or snap-gauges). Plastigauge is not extremely accurate and it sounds like you have some obvious clearance issues.

Theres no point in measuring with micrometers and dial-bore gauges if I'm not even close yet. I already know I have waaaaay too much clearance so before I go and do like 10000 different measurements I want to get it somewhat close to my specs.

Does anyone know where Im supposed to look on the block and crank to get the correct bearing sizes?

i dont think blocks are marked actually i think you have to go by the crank size and your current bearing size.

That's why you do need to measure them. If you know how far off you are, you will know if you need different bearings or if the crank has been ground undersize. You can't do that with plastigauge. If you measure them you will know exactly what bearings you need.
