Default Think my head gasket is blown, please help

My car recently loss power all of the sudden. It started making a whooshing sound of either air escaping or coming in. There was almost no exhaust noise also. I noticed a loss in colant a few days ago, and i took off my oil cap and it smells like fuel. If anyone has any clue what this may be, please help me out.

Thanks guys

either the gasket is blown or worse. I had a cracked sleeve and it felt sluggish and lost coolant before just dying one day. Stupid motor wasn't tuned, I thought it was stock... had no reason to think otherwise.

go to an autoparts store and grab one of those headgasket testers.

it tests for exhaust gasses in the coolant.

Id say checking and looking at your oil would be a good indicator if you have massive amounts of coolant flowing into it.

is it blowing smoke from the exhaust or overheating? And where is the sound comming from? its possible that one of your coolant lines is leaking, have you tested that?

Do this if your radiator blows bubbles.

Also check for oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil.

Also check for white smoke billowing from exhaust.

Any of these symptoms indicated a blown headgasket or other leaking gasket, assuming hoses etc. haven't been hooked up wrong.

Did your car overheat?

Radiator is not blowing bubbles, no oil in the coolant or coolant in oil, no white smoke, no overheating. I found through a pressure test that the coolant is leaking from the gasket on the bottle neck where coolant goes into the block. Compression test resulted in 180 across the board. I have absolutely no idea what in the hell is going on with it, im not even sure what to do next

): that would suck if it was a blown headgasket. Takes so much time if you do it yourself and mechanics charge up the ***.

its not really that hard as long as you have friends. Becuase if you got friends you can have them literally hold up the head for you after you take the bolts off, while you change the gasket underneath. That way you dont have to take off the intake mani, and someone can just hold the header away from the head.

Turned out to be a clogged cat. Was so bad you could hear the internals rattling. That explained the fuel smell under the valve cover, the lack of exhaust note, and the loud intake due to exhaust backing up

Ya head gaskets are pretty easy. I did one on my delsol 2 weeks ago. Took about 3 hours. $21 at schucks. If you have never done one, just grab a manual and go at it.

yup that's what i would do unless you have an emission test to pass

that way if there is nothing in it then you don't have to worry about it getting clogged anymore
