it keeps revving

it keeps revving
my friends hb revs by itself, can anyone please help. he said it has to do something with the distributor or something. he has a 92 eg dx. can this problem be fixed easily by ourselves or does it need to go to the shop. thanks for all the help.

it could be as simple as a tight throttle cable to a vaccum leak somewhere...
when you say "it keeps revving" do you mean it keeps revving to a higher rpm or does the revving go up then down?

mine did that, I had a vacuum leak in the IAC valve, what we did was kinda simple but complicated sounding..
we cute a piece of rubber/vinyl and layed it across those three holes the circle oval and round square holes, which sealed it so no fluid went to it.
