headers hot and smoking after starting.
Today I when I turned on my car and popped the hood right away, I saw smoking coming from my headers. I felt them and they were really hot and my car hadn't even been on for much more than a minute. I have no clue what could cause the headers to heat up like they did. The temperature gauge didn't move, and the engine was still cold to the touch. Also the headers are heat wrapped. Any ideas what could be up?
Their is something on your header, water, oil, coolant, other. Headers will get up to 600 degrees before you know it. Especially aftermarket. Find out what soaked your header.
so it's normal for it to get that hot in a matter of seconds? TBH, I haven't really touched it before since it never smoked but I never remember it ever being as hot as it was just from turning on.
Yea it dosnt take long for them to heat up. Just think of it as a stove top that has hot air that is prolly about 500-600 degree blowing on it. It get hot really fast. I would just check for leak around your valve cover coolant hoses, and look and see if it looks like you have a leak at your cyl head. More than likely it just got splashed with water if it has rained or snowed where you are.
check your cam seals they like to drip alittle and if your running aftermarket headers not the same metal as stock a lot thinner it will heat up real fast so it should be ok unless they are turning blue
