Default Cracked Headers!?

Hey, so i was lookin in my engine today, and had to take off my headers heat shield, only to find out that my headers are cracked! So i need to order some new ones, but my big question is why do you guys think they cracked? I have a vis vented carbon fiber hood, which lets water in, but everyone assured me that would not do anything like this? Also when my cat-back was put on something was wrong and it was vibrating a ton, until they switched the hangers, so you think that could be it or anyone have any ideas?

sorry for the "s" only one engine...yeah i though so too, but VIS assured me that nothing like that would happen on the headers, only if it got to the engine block, which cant really happen....so im kinda at a loss

they said that so you would buy it. anything that hot can crack with a drastic temp change

ya the vents are open in the top you can see right in

edit: but when ur moving i would assume the water just goes right over the vents.

This seems to be a common problem with the 96-00 CX and DX exhaust manifold. Apparently it was poorly designed. Mine was cracked also

was it a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 header?

if your exhuast wasnt installed properly, the vibrations could have started to rip the header up a bit. before i upgraded from my DP to the cat to a flex pipe with test pipe, i thought it would rattle the engine to hell.

go to autozone and they have this metal compound made by permatex. Its a squishy plastic tube filled with this like paste type metal. Its good for up to 1000 degress and gets harder as it keeps heating up. I used this on my old civic..works like a charm. U just can use ur car for about a day to let it dry

just fire up the millermatic 135 and weld the damn thing together. Or maybe put a lexan plate under the vent during the rainy/cold season.

Is this the oem exhaust manifold or an aftermarket header? My bro has the vis vented hood on his gsr and he has the itr header on there. Never had any problems with the header or rain.

I think your cracked header could have been due due excesive weight on the header via the exhaust system(piping & muffler). You said you needed to have the hangers replaced, possibly because the exhaust was hanging too low and hence putting extra weight on the header. You should post pics of the header.

Its a stock header, so that could be the problem, maybe a combination of head, and water and too much stress?

mine goes in between the #2&3 ports all the way down on both sides. if it cracks any more the #1&2 cyl. part of the manifold will be seperate from the rest. mine is a stock z6 manifold.
