Default Recommended Clutch

Hey whats u[p guys. I am about to turbo my LS motor and I was wondering what clutch would be good for it. I am shooting for around 300 hp. I am going to be driving this daily and it will be tracked every once in a while. I was reading on the Fidanza 2.1 clutch and was wondering if that would be too much clutch?

I went with a act clutch for my ls-t. but I bought it used for 100 bucks so I really couldn't pass it up, 300whp isn't to hard to find a clutch that will get the job done, Iv even ran ebay f1 and "xtd" clutches around that power, they felt like crap but got the job done. do you plan on running the car on slicks?

Idk I may run it on slicks but I may just run it on radials and be safe. So basically any aftermarket clutch would be able to get the job done?

just get a good name brand, exedy, clutch masters, act..etc
get a six puck if you don't mind driving on one and you won't have any issues.

un sprung means the clutch has no give in it vs sprung were the springs absorb a little shock.

Iv heard that unsprung clutches are more likely to break stuff.

as for 4 puck vs 6 puck, I know my 4 puck clutch I have seems to have alot more chatter then my old 6 pucks. either one will work for your whp goals

Im running the LSD dragger clutch with the street disk. Its rated for 332 ft lb of tq. Its the best feeling clutch Ive ever felt in a honda. My brother-in-law had a act for his teg, and it didnt feel half as good, as my lsd one. Well ive flat shifted my 8.0:1 Low compression LS, B4 it was turboed at the track with 22" drag radials, and it would spin the tires in 3rd. And I had just had an alighnment, so I know that it wasent off.

I think it was right around $300 shipped to my door. Call mike up and tell him you want the rhmt.com hook up, or the HT hook up price. The thing I really like about the dragger clutch from his is that it is a double stacked sprung center and not just some panted stock pressure plate. And its made in the USA

I'd say act or exedy, I could hook you up with both for sick prices. We also sell lsd clutches, we just recommend act and exedy before them.

I used an ACT clutch when I first went boost. When i finally upgraded i went with Competition Clutch instead. Make sure you get a sprung as unsprung is a very hard engagement. I found that the Competition brand wears better than ACT.
Whatever brand you get get one that is rated for the amount of TORQUE you will have.

Hey guys, I have been searching on honda-tech with too many results and I hate posting up new threads. My clutch is starting to slip purty bad and I need to replace. I want to go turbo in the future but it might not be for another year or two (lets be real, school, wedding, debt, vacations, etc) Is there a con to running overkill on a clutch? I dont care about pedal feel or comfort. I can get a CC stage 2 or a stage 5 for literally the same price. So what's the harm in running a stage 5?

Also, let's assume that my flywheel is original and the motor has 100k+ miles on it. How do I know if I need to replace it or just get it resurfaced? Thanks for the help in advance as these answers are surprisingly hard to find these days...or maybe I just hate sifting through all the crap

You should start a new thread, but since you need a new one now and not going turbo yet, just get an exedy oem replacement. I think they are still the cheapest. When you go turbo that is when you get a new clutch for the torque rating you need. Take your flywheel down to a local shop to check the specs on it and they'll resurface it if needed. Done.

When i built my ~300whp setup, i chose the Exedy stage 2 cerametallic paired with an ACT 11lb fly. I loved the combo for the street and the strip...i daily my car so the street aspect was very important. On my current setup, i run a Competition Clutch Stage 4 and still daily it. At first i thought the clutch was going to leave me with a giant left leg, but it ended up being VERY street-friendly. If you plan to make more power in the future, i would suggest the CC Stage 4...it sounds scarier than it truly is...

Would a stage 4 last any longer or shorter than a stage 2 if they were both running a 300whp setup? I'm not worried about the scare factor, in fact I was thinking about going with the stage 5...I'm the kinda guy who'd rather overkill than take a chance, and always looking to upgrade now instead of later.

I'd go with a Competition Clutch! They have a stock pedal feel and they last a long *** time. I've got a Stage 4 sprung with a 4 puck disk. I've had 2 with over 400whp and I'd never go with another brand.

I'm dont know that it is going to be any longer lived than something of a differen't 'stage', but going based on sheer intuition (with no ACTUAL knowledge) i would say yes...simply because the material is going to be a little stronger than that of the lower stage units. It is built to handle more abuse, power and heat so at a light load of 300whp, i would imagine it'd last longer. Having said that, when i pulled my Exedy 2 after two years, it looked like the day i bought it. I was not nice to that clutch and it still had plenty of life left in it.

If you plan on going turbo save yourself the labor and just do it once. Put a CC stg 4. I daily it and it was perfect didn't feel any different than my old act stg 2 (can't remember model). Ran fine on 224whp n/a and worked fine when spraying a 100 shot on top of it and could hold alot more power.
