just bought a civic with tranny noise, trying to get an idea what it is
Ok.just bought a 93 civic.
Ok.it doesn't grind, but it makes a scratching sound in gears 1,2,3.its only like about 2500-3500 rpm.1st gear may start around 1700 give or take a few.and its only when on throttle.NO noise in nuetral or if in gear just rolling.I put the front end on jackstands and removed the axled and no noise(turned car on and acted like I was driving, with no axle)...so I replaced.and tried again.I could hear but bearly notice.so I set the car dow an drove it.still the scratchy noise.
Also.at start up it'll take several minutes of drivin for noise to appear.
It runs,drives,shifts smooth.
I was kinda looking around and thinkin it might be the isb??
Anyone ever have issues like this?
Would it be better to rebuild it or just replace it?
Any info would be helpful.thanks

Sounds like the input shaft bearing. Does the noise go away when you push the clutch in? My car is having the same exact symptoms and its the ISB.
Yes.goes away with clutch pressed, its only when I'm in gear and accelerating.
Ok.that's kinda what I got from googleing,so gooa chances are it the isb.
I talked to a shop few weeks ago amd he said if its that chances are its 2 other bearings that will go out along with it,I have no I dea what they are but he said its probably isb and maybe 2 others.don't remember the names.
Would this be worth fixing or shoud I just get a whole differenylt tranny?
One shop said 250 + parts if I take it to them.
Another said 150 + parts.also if I take it to them.

To be honest.I dunno.
Because if itry to be cheap and go to the shop that charges 150,neverr know hoW good of job they do.
I've delt with the one that charges 250,they we're ok,just a lil slow.and they have to get parts.
Then I've seen d series trannys go for like 100.but now that I'm looking for 1 I've sEen them in the 200-400 range.and I still gotta pull crap off mine to complete install.I think that's crazy for d series tranny.

but its rebuilt "reliability" will last longer than a used 1 has warranty wont break a day after but even if it does warranty covers it
i would rather just buy like a ls swap if ima be spending 1000.
i think ima wait and look and see if i find a tranny for a good price.if not ima try out the shop that can rebuild it for the 15o.i think he will warranty his work.
