Default Drivers' door seems too "shock" me

When i turn my car off and open the door and reach for the little switch to lock the doors it seems to shock me. It is winter so the first few times i thought i was static, but more recently i have held me finger on the switch for several seconds and felt small but several "jolts". It doesnt hurt, but it is weird. Is this even possible? i thought the switch itself was just shiney plastic. Anyways anyone ever have this happen to them? it seems to happen to me everytime i get out...

maybe the plug on the lock switch is a little loose? either that or the switch may be going bad. i have never experienced this so those are just ideas.

I think it's static: more of a problem in wintertime when the air is relatively dry. I cannot see how you could get jolts from a 12V DC system: the voltage simply is too low.

Bought me one of those antistatic keyrings: a little glass tube with a small neon lamp inside and copper caps on both ends. It's funny to see the lamp light up every time I 'discharge' when getting out of the car.

it is very possible to feel 12V...obviously youve never stuck your toungue on a 9v batteryw hen you were little....it could be but is most likely static

Sure I did use my tongue to test batteries: out here the 4,5V type battery was very popular for use in flashlights

If it's shocking you it would be blowing the fuse for the power door locks.

I say it's static.

That is one of the strangest problems I've ever heard of in a car. I'm sorry I don't have a solution.

take the panel off and check for anything that doesnt look right. loose/bare wires, corrosion anything. if you can spot anything that is probably the problem. i know its a long shot but it doesnt sound like static so there has to be something in there causing it. if its not that then maybe there is something not quite right with the switch, this is a VERY VERY long shot but this is also a very very strange problem.

I got the static shock on every Honda I ever owned with cloth seats. Ever since using a sheepskin seat cover (for cloth seats), the static shock went away. My conclusion is the cloth fabric on the seat is generating the static charge when I get in and out of the seat. I do recall that certain seasons are worst than others from my 20+ years of Honda ownership.

Not say your issue is the same. You also may have a bad ground.

trust me its definitly not static guys ha. As i said it does it when i hit the switch. As in i can push it down and hold it for a sec or 2 then it does. static would discharge just once at just as i got near it. But i plan to take the door panel off and take a looksy this weekend if the weather allows (no garage ) but i will let u guys know what in gods name is going on haha

Mine does the same, when I go to actuate the door lock, it seems to shock me when the actuation begins. Having had the accord for three years, I know that mine is a result of static. (It only happens in the Winter)

My thought is that it's possible that the electricity inside of the actuator may support more static transfer.

To not get shocked - When I get out of the car, I touch my keys to the door hook on the body of the car (bare metal) as I am exiting, and then before I lock it from the inside (manually) I touch my keys to the plastic-esque inner door latch.

It takes some practice to make it look smooth but I don't get shocked very often!

lol wow i had no idea this was such a common problem. are you guys dancing in your seat while you drive? lol

well, to bigsnorlax, the good news is that its pretty easy to get the panel off (at least on a 94, i cant imagine it to be too much worse on a 96.) hope you can see something simple to fix. that would annoy the hell out of me if my car shocked me all the time!
