Default Your eBay Turbo Kit Opinions/Suggestions

I know there's probably old topics on this subject, but i'm not asking 'is it worth it, or should I get it'.

I wanna know everyone's opinions on the eBay turbo kits, suggestions, problems, past experiences, or anything like that.

I've read several topics saying 'they are good if you replace seals, or replace this, etc.', but I just wanna know everyone's true opinions at this point in time

do a quick search, this has been covered time and time again

if you use google to search this site it works a ton better than this site's own search feature.

buying eBay turbos have a lower standard of reliability, performance, and compatibility. some things can be replaced with quality components (seals, diaphragms, and springs) but it wont make it a brand name turbo kit

i suggest ebay kits if you have done hours of homework on what to expect from them

the problem with them is cheap quality materials and craftsman ship combined with a complete and sometimes disgusting lack of engineering.

like this.. i can use a dollar store kitchen knife for food prep.. but it is likely it'll go dull and possibly break and cause me to bleed out on the floor waiting for an ambulance.

what are you really gonna expect out of the car? what kind of reliability do you require? how adept are you at buying and replacing things when, not if, they break. and how good are you at troubleshooting the problems that will arise from a bullshit scrap-part turbo car?

i can vouch for using ebay charge piping if you find a kick-*** deal on it. or if i had a beater that i was only gonna throw 300 bucks into i'd ebay turbo it and use it in a stupid tekademics video.

and now i've feed the trolls, and this thread.

That was completely irrelevant to what I stated in my first post.

Monkey was stating that about searching because this has been covered more times than one can count. You can find tons of info on peoples experiances by searching rather than waiting for replies on a new thread about this topic.

Wish more people would live by that when it comes to lots of things in life, Boosting your car being one of them. Seems alot of people get a nut off at how cheap they can boost there engine using Ebay Turbo parts..not thinking about how much more they will spend in the longrun, along with ALOT more aggravation and fustration.

buying a used, name brand turbo like a Garret, Air Research, Turbonetics, etc and a rebuild kit won't cost much more than a new eBay no-name turbo. It will last longer, perform better, parts are more easily available, they can be upgraded, they won't grenade and throw shrapnel into your motor. Seriously, we're not trying to benefit ourselves from this, we're giving the logical answer to save others from headaches.

Check the for sale forum here. Find a new turbo from one of the sponsors or a used one from someone and support the community. I'm selling a bunch of stuff and it's helping me get closer to getting my car running again.

I should mention I saw a Garret T3 for $100 here. http://www.hondamarketplace.com/show....php?t=2707300
If you buy a rebuild kit, it's still only like $130 and it's like a brand new turbo. I don't know this guy at all, I just gave that link to show there are good turbos for cheap that aren't eBay.

Brand name= spool faster, dont need rebuild as often, usually wont blow to pieces

Ebay= all of the opposite

Have you thought about a rebuilt DSM turbo?

DSM turbos are small, just fyi. There's some Mustang or something that had a T3 on a 2.5 liter I think, or there's the LeBaron, Saabs, and others you can get turbos off of. Lots of car makers used Garret or kkk, Garret or others based off them would be best since theres so many parts available.

The only good things off DSMs are the blow off valves off 1st gens and their fuel injectors.
