did you recently have an alarm installed that taps into any wires to read rpm's? my friend has a 99 si and after his alarm was installed a for a while the wire got loose and he couldnt take it pas 3000 rpm until we figured out his wired was shorting out something that made the ecu not let he car rev past 3k.

i think so .. but if it is the ecu, then the distributor had nothing to do with the problem then right? should i change it back to factory instead of payying for something that wasn't the source?

yes also check the map sensor. you will need a vacuum pump. pump to 30in/hg
and check it with a voltmeter, should read about 5V, or autozone can do it for you.
