I agree on rod knock.
What do the plugs look like? Like something's been hitting one of them? Or maybe the electrode has broken off one? If not, it's going to be something loose inside the crankcase.
On the plus side, you can probably get another non-VTEC d series longblock for next to nothing.

the plugs look fine. i just want to know if its worth fixing or not. someone just e-mailed me about a d for 200 so thats not bad. its just at a bad location(ghetto) and idk if it will be a reliable engine. im looking for an ls or singlecam vtec because i have around 1200$
If you're going to upgrade, go with the LS. My 2000 EX has had SOHC VTEC and DOHC non-VTEC motors in it and I've been MUCH happier with the latter, especially for a daily.
Call around to a few wrecking yards. They'll usually give you a 30 or 60 day warranty if you're concerned about the health of the motor.

try checking your valve lash first. most ppl overlooked that and automatically suspect rod knock. check the clearance on those cause a bad valve lash will sound like a rod knock if left unfixed.
