Default swapping out CVT transmission out for 4spd automatic

If i were say swap out the cvt transmission out of the hx and install a automatic transmission .

theoritically this should work correct ?

--------------

Im actually asking this because I want to install a lean burn motor into my d16y8 powered automatic civic. I want to keep the automatic tranmssion but want the lean burn motor that comes with only 5 speed or cvt.

So if I install it with the automatic ecu it should theoritacally work , if not, what would give the errors ?

Thanks for the input

it probably won't work, because the tcm is in the ecu. the d16y5 is also a 5 wire o2, so using an ex ecu won't work either.

very good point ,

But can I not seperate the wires that go into the ecu for the transmission ( in plug B I believe ) . and Leave the d16y8 ecu controlling the automatic transmission while the 37820-P2J-J63
37820-P2J-J71

control the ecu ( d15b jdm lean burn ecu codes for obd2b)

Anyone good with wiring ? Know if it can be done.

Seperate the automatic transmission funtioning from the engine ecu ?

I would run both ecus ( the correct ecu for the motor ) and the stock ecu that came with car and transmission just for the auto tranny .

It can't be done. There are certain situations where you can run 2 ECUs, but this isn't one of them (the only H22 into an '01 - '05 civic that I know of is running a chipped and converted P06 to run the engine and the original ECU to run the gauges.) The ECU makes its shifting decisions based on several conditions (TPS, VSS, etc) I can't see being able to piggyback it off the P2J ECU. Just as an aside only the 5 speed HXs had a 5 wire O2 sensor and lean burn.

I just don't see the logic here, you want lean burn for presumably better mileage, but you want to keep the automatic tranny thats killing your fuel mileage.

I dont want to keep the automatic transmission. But its my wifes car. And she rather drive automatic.

She can drive 5 speed roughly, but Id rather her feel confortable driving.

I think im going to give up on this idea for now. In a few months when I pick up another car , ill swap in the lean burn and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the help and posts

A 5 speed conversion seems to be pretty easy

I'd probably just keep the entire Lean burn CVT drivetrain though; It'd be smoother and more efficient than the Autotragic.

I don't know of anyone who started out driving stick smoothly, once you do it on a regular basis for a couple of weeks its pretty much second nature.

OPs car is an EX, even easier because theres no weird mount issue to deal with

Thats another part of the problem, CVT HXs didn't have a wideband O2 and leanburn, only the 5 speeds.

Someone please confirm. for the 49 states, for the Civic HX, the manual has lean burn, but the CVT does not? In California, none have lean burn?

Same story as the 1st gen Insight?

But the 1st gen Civic Hybrid is an auto but it has lean burn? But not in California?
