Hello all, I am thinking of getting a 2002 TL (non type S model). I have been researching these cars and have read alot about transmission issues. It seems like every issue I have read about was on a Type S model. I'm wondering if this only applies to those models and if the transmission from the standard TL models is OK. Do the 2 models have different transmissions? The car I am thinking about purchasing is a 2002 with 65k on it and they are asking $8500. This is from an Acura dealership. Any advice or inputr would really be appreciated before making this investment. Thanks in advance.

PS- I have also been looking at 2000-2001 Acura RL's. Any issues with these cars I should know about? Which would be a better buy the TL or RL? Budget is around 9k.

same trans, same problem. 99tl's (4spd) are a whole lot better than the 00-03 5spd

 

What about the RL's?

its a great car but I have had the same trans problems on my 2003 TL non s type. There is an extended warranty from the factory but only up to 115,000 (i believe)

 

get the extended warranty, it will pay for it's self if your trans takes a crap and it will at some point
