Re: Interested in Buying 2001-2002 CL Type S (Ruamit)
The CL is a very nice choice for a sport coupe.
The only major issue that they have is the tranny problem. In 2nd gear is where the problem occurs, but Acura extended the warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles.
So i would suggest buying one with lower mileage, and selling it when it hit 100,000 or when it is 7 years old.

And a lot of body roll since it's such a bulky car. . . but that can be helped with suspension improvements.
Great cars though.

definetly a great car
We have a 01 CL type S. No problems except for the transmission and acura takes care of that quickly.

Re: Interested in Buying 2001-2002 CL Type S (JDMworld)
Yup...other than the transmission recall woes, it is an awesome luxury/sport coupe. Plenty of power, plenty of creature comforts inside (especially if you get the navi version like i did)...its just a good overall car. Gas mileage isnt "great", and it probobly would have been near perfect had it been a rear wheel drive platform, but those are just small complaints which are out weighed by the pro's.
I've had mine for a good while now, i've wracked up alot of mileage but ive also had it in the shop at Acura 3 times since ive owned it for transmission service, this is the 2nd NEW transmission i have had since i bought it...its just something you have to accept buying the car, it WILL eventually have some sort of tranmission problem, some people go near 100,000 miles before anything happens, some people go 5,000 miles, and a very few have NEVER had any issue...but thats a very rare breed, and i know eventually, they will too.
Car is a torquie monster for an FF platform, VSM is a good thing because off, the wheels will just spin and boil the tires off, especially in the rain, it has a great brake system, good size up front, decent discs in the rear. Theres not much to complain about performance wise since it is capable of high 14's stock in the 1/4, and 6sec. 0-60's, its really quite impressive vs. other cars in its class (bimmers, benz's, lexus)...
I have loved owning mine, only dissapointed when its in the shop and i have to drive a loaner or a rental...i had a TSX loaner and i can truely say that i would never trade my car for the TSX. Interior is great...seats are comfortable and sporty, climate control is awesome (but can be kind of irritating with the navigation system having to wait for it to boot up to control fan speed)...stock radio is nice, 6disc in dash is a good feature...and the ergonomics are very positive, i dont think i have much complain about anything in the interior, even the back seats are nice and comfortable...i would have preferred a hand e-brake on my 2001 (as they were given a floor set one) but this was upgraded in 2002 i believe (may have been 2003).
Just know that the 6speed is ONLY availabe in the 2003 model, and they can be hard to come by. Deffinately get one with lower miles if you go tiptronic, and make sure that you bring it in at the FIRST sign of any tranny issues...otherwise, great car, deffinately would suggest it as i love mine.

Very Noisy car also can start to have many rattles in the rear and yes the tranny issue sucks, i work for vandergriff acura and even when you replace the tranny somtimes honda send you a new one and sometimes a remanufactured one and ive had to replace 3 on one car at times so just be careful check the vech. hist if you can

Re: Interested in Buying 2001-2002 CL Type S (Stewyman)
I've had no issues with interior rattles or noise...car is extremely quiet (though with my BBS and lower profile tires, i have some road noise that isnt on most stock CL-S's).
My car is an example of one that went through 2 reman's and then with my current new tranny, im doing good for now. It's had some little quirks but nothing serious, thankfully, its still covered for quite a long time.

Im looking to sell mine for $17,500...70k (tranmission 15,000), navigation, flawless condition (exterior and interior)...actually just had the front bumper resprayed because of rock dings and stuff at Acura, so its looking real good. Brand new tires on BBS 17's...

Re: (hotNsexy69)
It's probobly worth more if i really sat down and wanted to haggle with people, but given what i owe, and what i need to purchase the next car i want, $17,500 i feel is very fair...given the local dealership has one (red) with 1,000 MORE miles, no warranty (this one still has 10,000 left on its power train and 30,000 on the tranny), and their asking $20,300 for it...mine is a navigation model (as it reads in the VIN#) and has a very nice set of BBS 17x7's with some brand new Kuhmo Ecsta's on it (since they seem to have a good balance of road comfort and performance without having too soft a rubber compound).
I absolutely think its worth atleast that...but im not in the market to try and haggle prices for weeks trying to get $19,000 for it, so i just put it at a fair estimate...besides, im not TRYING to sell it really, i WOULD if someone came with a check for $17,500, but i love my car, and would only get rid of it if i had enough to put my profit down and get an M3 in the same payment range im paying now...which i dont see as a problem if i get what im asking for my CL-S.
