b16a 1st gen build questions? help please! lots of good questions!
My buddy is giving me a block and crank bare bones. I know the parts im gonna need to build this motor. What i dont understand is the obd's... its confusing as hell. I'm putting it in a 97 cx hatch. the motor is jdm and i live in california where 85% of swapped motors are not bar'd so finding a guy is no problem. but i would like to do this build as clean as possible. i dont want to stare at a check engine light all the time but if i have to i will.
so.....
i believe the first gen are obd0? and the car i have is obd1 i think?
can i switch to obd1 and everything run smoothly? If so what do i need to switch it?
if i can not switch do i have to buy a obd0 computer? and will my other stuff plug into that?
sorry im not a newbie to civics but a newbie to the details...
also i may want to daily driver turbo this motor and since its out ill be buying all the parts now. what changes does that make when buying parts...
please help!!!!!!!1

All you would need is the obd1 ecu and a jumper harness.Just hit up Ryan at Rywire and he will hook you up.
just find an obd 1 head for the block and your car is and obd2a so you can reuse your engine harness and for the vtec wires you can either make them urself by getting the pieces u need at the junkyard or buy them from rywire, u will also need the obd2a to obd1 jumper harness and the obd1 p30 ecu
The previous guys r right and u have a few ways u could do it but if ur not limited by emissions then obd1 will b the better system to use for tuning. If u needed to stay obd2 then u could do that as well. The gen the head came from isn't really going to matter be cause it's not hard to make it go either way (obd0-obd2). Ur intake manifold is the main thing that will determine the difficulty in making it either obd1-obd2 but still isn't a hard thing to work over.
