Default possible damage from big *** pothole

hey ya'll

i just hit the big *** pothole in freeway going 60mph and hit the pothole... eventually my rim got damaged, bent crazy...

i would like to ask you that what would be the possible damage other than bent rim? hopefully my suspension system didn't get damaged... you know rim is cheap these days, i can just go get one, but dealing with funked up suspension system can be painfull....

please advise w/ any possible damage i should look for.
thanks!

If you damaged your rim, you probably knocked the suspension out of alignment.

You'll definitely need an alignment first. Things that may be bent / damaged: tie rod, control arm, wheel bearing.

that blows. anyways, ive hit a nasty pothole before in the winter that caused me to skid off the road and also bent my stock rims! (90 accord ex) which is hard to do considering those things weigh so damn much and it also knocked my suspension WAY out of alignment. i called the city offices and after many phone calls and threats civil action, i was reimbursed for the damage because the city failed to take care of the pothole before it became extremely dangerous. it might be worth checking out the pothole, taking a few measurements (if its still there) and finding out if there have been any other complaints about that specific pothole. i know it sounds like a pain in the ***, but it saved me ~$300
good luck.

ohh for sure. in my old accord I went over one of those 'one way spike strips' and one of the spikes grabbed my cat and ripped the exhaust apart on my car (tore the flex pipe right in two). a few cals and I had the whole repair bill taken care of.... I failed to mention to them that my car was lowered 2 inches but they didn't ask

yeah the alignment is out of hand, and other than rattling due to the bent rim, i don't see any visual damage on the suspension system... hopefully that's the end of story.....

anyhow, what's the basic symptom for having the bent / damamged: tie rod, control arm, wheel bearing?

please advise!

I hit a pothole one time that was so deep I thought my car was going to get stuck. It blew my tire out because I just hit the edge and it pinched the sidewall.Worst of all it was on my birthday and it was raining. A few days after, my friend hit the same pothole and got a flat also. I just have to wonder why they let them go for so long. Another time I saw this lady hit a huge pothole and as soon as she hit it...PSSTTTTT. She pulled over in a parking lot down the road and I pulled over and changed it for her because it was a nice Accord.

If your steering wheel is crooked, then you may have a bent tie rod or your steering rack may need adjusting.

Control arm, it's difficult to tell, but when you corner, you may notice your tires losing traction prematurely... however, that could be anything in your suspension that's throwing out your suspension. It's likely that your caster and toe may be out of spec.

You may not be able to tell if the wheel bearing is damaged yet... but with the wheel bearing, you may have bearing play and / or hear a loud droan coming from your front wheels at highway speeds (the sound will be like a flat spot on your tires).

Good luck...
