Ok, I just ordered up myself a S2 70mm TB with a Thermal 70mm TB gasket. Then I was told that the S2 70mm TB sometimes sticks... is this true? I just want to verify this.

Anyone else running the same TB?? whats your opinion?

 

just make sure you install it right, use skunk2s gasket. make sure tps correctly and it will be fine if you have the IM it gives you a good go

 

man i had a horrible issue with my skunk2 throttle sticking i had to go back to the oem throttle body
it was sticking and causing my car to start 2 step

 

Just grease the spring and the plate up. That is the main reason why they stick, cause they are dry, and the daily moisture starts to make it like a rusty door hinge.

 

Cancel your order if you can. They're really bad.

 

I've heard nothing but bad about them. I have a Professional Products and love it; not to mention, it's cheaper.

 

Damn! I guess, I'll have to sell it then. I can't return it now cause I bought it used from a guy off ebay.

But, I read Skunk2's installation and troubleshooting PDF and it said that if its sticking while butterfly is closed then to tighten the butterfly screw til it doesn't stick anymore. It also said that if it sticks while open, it needs a new return spring from Skunk2.

Oh well. I'll see how its like after I install it. Maybe it'll stick, maybe it won't if I'm lucky.

Yeah, Skunk2 will tell you anything they can to make it "ok". They're junk. Mine had a casting that wasn't even straight, you couldn't turn the spindle 360* without it binding up.

their horrible...I have the same problem..ima try greasing it up a bit when Im done with the motor work

 

I've also had problems with one on a customers car.

I was never able to fully remedy the problem

 

I have a Skunk 2, I've done everything, it sucks

All billet TB's do this though

Get a cast unit if you can.

 

Thanks for the reply guys. I appreciated. I just receive mine from Fedex today. Looks nice and in great shape although its a used TB.

So then, I was studying the S2 butterfly while I was opening and closing it very very slowly to see if there's any sticking possible, but I did not feel anything but smooth closing and opening of the butterfly.

Just gotta see what happens after I install it.

 

I talked to the guys from Endyn about throttle bodies and he recommends the Professional Products. He also mentioned that you have to be very careful about the S2 throttle-body butterfly screws coming loose and being ingested by the engine. He personally witnessed the aftermath of the ingested screw wilts rebuilding the ruined engine. He said that at the very least remove the screws, clean it thoroughly and lock tight them with the high strength stuff, I'm pretty sure it's the green or black tubes. Oh nice. I was wondering the same as well when I was looking at the threaded thingy and the bolt if it needed loc-tite or not. I'll probably do that just to be on the safe side.

You guys see these spots that I circled?? Are they going to leak?



Also, the Thermal gasket is this thick. I know for a fact that the TB won't be able to touch the IM with a gasket that thick:



Let me know what you think, cause I got a feeling that I might have a vacuum leak. What gasket will I need?

But still, there's still that open spot thats not covered by the gasket and it will be expose. I believe that port is for the MAP sensor. Will I have vacuum leak then?

 

Ok, here it is w/o the gasket:



It leads the port back to the Butterfly bore. Probably a vacuum leak for sure then.

 

The U shaped notch in the top of the gasket in that one pic shouldnt be there. The idle circuit gets its intake air from the iacv port, follows that little path to the top of the tb, goes to the idle screw, and then what is metered by the idle screw enters the manifold at the hole in the 12 o'clock position. If that path leading there isnt covered then its just going to leak air into the manifold.

The biggest issue is the MAP port on the bottom, if thats not covered by the gasket then your MAP sensor will be reading pressure outside of the manifold which wont do you any good. Only way you could make it work was if you werent using the MAP sensor on the TB and you were doing it like an obd1 motor with the MAP on the firewall.

Where did you get that gasket from? Looks like its made from UHMW which isnt the best plastic to make a gasket out of.

 

Is my gas pedal suppose to be stiffer once I installed my S2 TB? I took it for a spin and man, it feels nice but my gas pedal is stiff. I gave it a bit of slack on the TB cable too, but still feel stiff.

Also, my RPM idles a 1.2K rpm and I tried to turn it down but it bottomed out and won't go anymore. Well, I didn't unhook the IACV when I turned the idle screw. I don't know if that'll matter?? Plus, my engine idles at 900rpm at cold start up, is that normal with the FITV delete?

Man I just got one of these too, and now herring the same thing I now hope to find a solution before I even instal it.

 

I am looking at mine as I read this and it make some sense to me what you are saying. I will Apply some machine oil or a thin coat of grease to it just before installation.
