Silicone Heater Hoses for my 88 Civic
Hey HT! I just joined because I picked up a 88 Civic LX (4 door of course). I got an insanely good deal on it, too. ($101 with taxes etc included) It is auto
, but oh well. It'll be my new DD.
Well, the heating system sucks to say the least. I pulled out the blower motor etc and found my heater hose cracked and looking like complete ****. I will be going ahead and replacing the entire heating system.
I found this site, it looks like they just released this silicone heater hose set up. Here's the link:

Let me know what you think.

I'm not asking about the price. I am more of a peace of mind type of person. I don't have any time to pull everything and replace it now (2 jobs and 2 kids), let alone do it again if the rubber hose fails for some reason (you never know with cheap-o pepboys/ebay replacements).
Go with new OEM Honda hoses! It's less than $30 to buy all three heater hoses (not just that one). And both new upper and lower radiator hoses are only $20.
So rubber will last "X" amount of years. Great, that's a valid point.
But what about silicone? Wouldn't those hold up for even longer? I figured there is a reason aftermarket companies are using silicone.

Trending Topics
1: sometimes people actually need higher temp rated hoses.
2: More commonly stupid people buy them for no reason.
Not necessarily,. sometimes the aftermarket silicone hoses are thin, cheaply made, and don't fit as well as stock.

I will. I just thought I would post it up to see what you all thought and what your opinions were on something like since I couldn't find anything on it when I searched.
Thin? I searched around and found this....

The silicone hose looks much thicker and durable.
Sweeeeet! That's what counts, doesn't it?

if you want reliability go oem. oem is the best in many casses although a bit more expensive it is worth it. they manufactured the cars and put the r&d into their parts. just think about how long oem parts last.
I have samco silicon hoses, why? only because I got a killer deal on them. I would be using OEM hoses if I didn't get a good deal on the Samcos. As far as the heater hose is concerned, a goodyear hose from the auto parts store will serve you just fine. It's just a heater hose, no need for "high performance" bits. Save the twenty dollars and replace something else the car may need.
