Default 2008 Accord: Sometime I need to press the gas to start the car! Why?

I have a 2008 Honda Accord. Sometimes, quite rarely, when I turn the key I hear the engine struggling to start but then when I push the gas while turning the key it starts .

Whats causing this?

Some Observations-

I have noticed that this has happened when I drive for a very short distance (less than half a mile) and then park the car for an hour and then combe back; this issue has happened twice under the same circumstances. Although this could have just been a coincidence.

-The weather during the time was coldish but not icy cold!
Had battery checked and Honda says its fine.

Its happens pretty rarely but WHY! Any idea?

You brought your car to Honda and they only checked the battery?

you'll need to better define "Struggling to start"

By Struggling to start I meant:

-I turn the key fully and hear the starting motor turn (Smoothly)
-The engine still doesent fire up
-Then; I do the same thing but press the gas pedal fully when turning the key and the engine starts

-Its almost as if the engine wasnt getting the fuel or something!! Its not like the starter motor was struggling or anything.

Like I said this happens rarely so its hard to tell why it happens on some occasions. Honda says everything to do with starting is fine! And if anything is wrong a light will come on the dash!

Also take into consideration my earlier observation:

"I have noticed that this has happened when I drive for a very short distance (less than half a mile) and then park the car for an hour and then combe back; this issue has happened twice under the same circumstances. Although this could have just been a coincidence"

Although i haven't seen any 08 accords with a bad fpr it's possible that this could be causing your issue. A bad fpr wouldn't hold the proper amount of fuel pressure, and could lose the pressure in the lines once the pump is off resulting in a longer than "usual" cranking time after an extended time sitting.

Btw, honda considers up to 10 seconds of cranking time normal.

Did you end up getting this resolved? My 08 Honda accord has the exact same issue. Changed the spark plugs, new battery, changed the starter as well. I even put in premium gas and went thru 2 bottles of fuel Injector cleaner. My issue is the same, car cranks for a bit before turning over and I have to step on the gas pedal for it to start. Furthermore, it happens more frequently when I drive for a bit and then park my car. When I come back, the issue starts again

Yeah it's either you're fuel pump motor or the ignition switch that would be my best guess. And fuel pump electric motor off eBay is 10 bucks Id try that first and then my second guess would be the ignition switch and I think that beck arnley makes one for 40 bucks or you can use the OEM One. Could also be your main relay. It's a box right under the steering either Reflow the solder because the connections are cracked or get a used one off eBay
